Friday, July 15th, 2011

Rodney King is still making mugshots after twenty years of infamy and notoriety. Salute this man for his determined hardbody consistency.

Okay, not really.

evolution

Editor’s note: Our homey cocotaso gives us this drop which is like a wake up call to New Balance and other brands on why evolution isn’t always a good thing…

I usually look towards New Balance as a quality/heritage driven brand. Creating classically designed shoes, made with decades worth of craftsmanship and top notch materials being the hallmarks of their brand. So like Reh Dogg “why must I cry”?. Well, its because New Balance has decided to seemingly forget all that history and join the ranks of Nike and adidas by making a mockery of a beloved model for the sake of updating it.

So here we have the offending shoe the 1574, New Balance’s attempt at creating a “fusion” or “remix”. or as I like to say 2000ing it. Even though we are well into this millennium 2000 still stands to me as the year of all things futuristic. I say stop the madness and stay true to what you do. How can you mess up the perfect all grey 574? This is how…

No need for convict stripes, sonic welding and a ridiculously large heel cup. and when not on sale, they cost almost twice as much as a common 574. No thanks New Balance. What’s next air bubbles and teddy bear heads on the tongues? People like you because they know they can turn to you

In this era of pink cement print fusions and dirty vans authentics and have something respectable on their feet. It aint broke, so don’t try to fix it. just give us a 997 already, or at least make the 1500 with the old mold.

Peace,

Cocotaso

Tear The Roof Off The Ceiling…

Monday, July 11th, 2011

My unborne children and their children’s children are being put up for grabs in the U.S. Govt’s high stakes game of fiscal roulette. In order to avert a U.S. default on their overleveraged debt the Congress has to pass a measure that allows the U.S. to borrow more money to pay down the existing debt.

Waitaminniit?!? Isn’t that how a ponzi scheme works? Yes, and this ponzi scheme controls all of our lives. Remember when the U.S. govt. had to bail out the bankers and the car companies and the insurance agencies and the Wall Street industrial complex? Well now who is gonna bail the U.S. govt. out?

One of our problems as a society is that we constantly repeat the same errors but still hope for a different outcome. We don’t ask the wealthy to pay their fair share of the tax burden but instead saddle these costs on to the backs of the working class. The other problem is that the working class in America is currently out of work.

Historically high rates unemployment and joblessness is being combined with historical levels of profiteering down on Wall Street. If we can’t raise the ceiling then we might better start excavating a sub-cellar. We’ll need the space down there to stash our rock bottom economy.

North Philly Is Divine…

In another year your boy will be married. Chocolate Snowflake and I have considered where we will live and raise our family. Will we stay in Brooklyn? PrA’li not. For us to remain working class in Brooklyn you have to be pretty wealthy. We are considering relocating to Washington D.C. or possibly Philadelphia.

I can fux with D.C. and Philly. Both cities have the ‘big city’ appeal that I need. I have to be around people and I have to be around art. I would also like to live somewhere I felt like the social culture was unique and not homogenized. New York City itself is beginning to have that pasteurized feel. Sometimes I don’t even know I’m in NYC. Washington D.C. can be like that too.

I thought Philly was the last place that kept it really real. Maybe I got it wrong on this account also. Philadelphia has a concentration of colleges sited within the city. Penn State, Temple, Drexel, Lehigh, Villanova and St. Joe’s to name a few. But then why is this town so depressed and politically deactivated?

How do you let this beautiful building become dilapidated?

The building is called the Divine Lorraine Hotel. When it was purchased by Father Divine of the Universal Peace Mission Movement in 1948 it was the first of its class in Philadelphia, ne, the United States, to be fully racially integrated.

Believing that all people were equal in the sight of God, Father Divine was involved in many social welfare activities as well. For example, after purchasing the hotel, several parts of it were transformed for public use. The hotel’s first floor kitchen was opened as a public dining room where persons from the North Philadelphia community were able to purchase and eat low-cost meals for 25 cents.

The building was closed in 1999 and sold in 2000 by the International Peace Mission. In May 2006 it was resold to Philadelphia developer Michael Treacy, Jr. to be converted into condominiums. Treacy, instead of redeveloping the building gutted the Divine Lorraine of all the classic interior’s fixtures and architectural ornaments. Treacy then left the building in tatters to the squatters and the vandals.

I’d like to believe that Philadelphia can once again be as great as it was when the Divine Lorraine Hotel was a beacon for the best in man, but if Philly can’t put itself back together again this humpty dumpty is gonna have to consider moving to New Hampshire.
