The Roots Come ‘UnDun’…

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

The Roots next album will be an experimental Hip-Hopera titled ‘UnDun’ about the brief life of a young man caught up in the streetlife.

Allow me to let Questlove tell the story…

“At this point in our career we’d like for our work to have a unifying theme, and an experiential quality. We’ve been intentionally making our albums shorter in length so that they can be experienced as a continuous work. The music is band-oriented with an eye on the moody cinematic. As a DJ, I am the King of playlists, but I don’t want our albums to feel like a playlist or a mixtape for that matter. We want to tell stories that work within the album format and we want the stories to be nuanced and useful to people.

Undun is the story of this kid who becomes criminal, but he wasn’t born criminal. He’s not the nouveau exotic primitive bug-eyed gunrunner like Tupac’s character Bishop in Juice… he’s actually thoughtful and is neither victim nor hero. Just some kid who begins to order his world in a way that makes the most sense to him at a given moment… At the end of the day… isn’t that what we all do?”

Greneberg On The Grind…

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

The westsiiiide is being treated to several live performances from the Roc Marciano x Alchemist x Oh No rap collective known as Greneberg.

Peep the press release…

Powerhouses in their own right, beatmaker/emcees The Alchemist, Oh No, and Roc Marciano will all hit the road this November in support of their collaborative EP, Greneberg. A pre-cursor to their upcoming album releases – Gangrene’s Vodka & Ayahuasca and Roc Marciano’s Marcberg – Greneberg is a smorgasbord of raw rhymes and cinematic beats, each track featuring guest verses and/or production from the other two artists.

The Alchemist + Oh No (Gangrene) gained notoriety as a group with their 2010 gritty opus, Gutter Water. Since then, the group has toured both Europe and the US performing for sold out crowds both at home and abroad. Their second album, Vodka & Ayahuasca is a psychedelic rap-trip, set to be released 11/15 on Decon.

Back in New York, Roc Marciano has been hard at work readying his Decon debut Reloaded, the much-anticipated follow-up to 2010’s Marcberg. Already being heralded as your favorite rapper’s, favorite rapper, the anticipation for Roc Marciano’s instant classic is near boiling point.

This is your chance to see these super producer/emcees together and in the flesh. Mutual admirers of each other’s craft, the combined artistry is palpable, both in recording and live on stage. This is a tour for the real heads.

Greneberg Tour Dates:
Nov 9 – Los Angeles, CA – Key Club
Nov 10 – San Diego, CA – Soda Bar
Nov 11 – Tempe, AZ – Clubhouse
Nov 13- San Francisco, CA – Brick and Mortar
Nov 15 – Seattle, WA – The Vera Project
