DAVE CHAPPELLE WHO?!?!?

chappelle

I went up to the ‘CHAPPELLE Show’ in-studio taping sessions just to see if the scene would be as crowded as I imagined and what do you know, the line was around the building. I wasn’t going to go into the session because I didn’t want to support the T.I.’s from Comedy Central who have essentially hijacked and bootlegged the show.

I am sure that some of his “fans” knew that he didn’t co-sign this product and basically that his longtime buddy NEAL BRENNAN sold him up the river, but the sessions were free and I guess after its all said and done nobody really cares.

I care about DAVE (no brokeback) and I care about the artisitic struggle. After this post I won’t say anything about the show on this site since I have promised myself that I won’t watch it. I hated when the T.I.’s sent CHRIS ROCK to bite DAVE on the azz. It was so obvious that CHRIS was being told what to say. I was further pissed off when the humps from ‘South Park’ chimed in with their moral (read: economics based) judgement. Fuck those ‘South Park’ fags that benefit from supremacy on a daily basis and then claim to be some even minded artists.

I feel DAVE’s pain because he had to split with his creative partner after finding out that dude was a snake in the grass. I hope DAVE can pick up the pieces. In the meantime I will enjoy BOONDOCKS reruns.

DUKE U. Has Got The Blues

blue devil blues

Let me open up this post by saying that even your hero, BILLY SUNDAY, can be wrong sometimes. Even I can get caught out there talking sideways because I do it so often. People’s feelings get hurt and I don’t usually feel any kind of way about it because people are too sensitive. Well, last time I got it twisted, but just like WHITNEY HOUSTON and cooked crack – I’m back biatches!

Shit is about to pop off something serious in Durham, N.C. The district attorney filed charges against two of the lacrosse players from Duke University. So I guess those dudes really did bust homegirl up something proper. The question that bugs me now is why did it take over a month to file charges? And what part of the game is it where niggas get to turn themselves in?!? If it had been some brothers from the local community college or the HBCU (I know, same difference) would they have been chilling for a month or would they have been that thing hanging from the tree called ‘strange fruit’?

There have been mountains of misinformation regarding this story from mainstream media outlets and from the word-of-mouth sources. This is what has given me all kinds of conflicting feelings about this story. I feared a repeat of one of the most controversial cases that had come through New York State almost twenty years ago. The alleged rape of TAWANA BRAWLEY had a disatrous effect on the fight for civil rights here in New York. The two lead activists in that case, C. VERNON MASON and ALTON MADDOX would end up disbarred from their law practices when the dust finally settled. Those two lawyers had devoted their careers to expose police brutality and corruption in New York and New Jersey. The zeal and determination that they used in pursuing the TAWANA BRAWLEY case would be used against them.

With that recent history as a backdrop there is also the recognition that the alleged attackers are athletes from one of the nations most venerable institutions. These kids may or may not be from wealthy families, but there is a greater deal of money at stake when people want to preserve the prestige of a Duke University. The Duke alums whose contributions allow the school to recruit and grant scholarships to the country’s best athletes care more about their image than even national championships. Please understand that the politics that are swirling around Durham have a gravity that can’t be measured. If the facts of this case show that these players are guilty they will be disappeared by the Duke University machinery. Their families will watch their children suffer the greatest ignominy for a white. They will be barred forever from raising their class status.

blue devils

In the end of all of this madness, whether she is vindicated or further victimized, I hope that this woman does not return to the lifestyle that could have nearly killed her. More than any of us needing to have our personal agendas satisfied there are two kids that need their mother.

In the end, that’s all that matters.

The Dark Knight Returns: 20th Anniversary

frankmiller

Twenty years ago one of the greatest examples of graphic literature was created. FRANK MILLER’s Batman epic ‘The Dark Knight Returns‘ is a well-crafted masterpiece of psychoanalytical storytelling on par with DOSTOEVSKY or POE. Actually, EDGAR ALLEN would be extremely proud of the story that describes a retired crimefighter’s last attempt to save Gotham City.

What makes the story so good is that we get to see the pathology of the caped crusader and realize his connection to the people that he battles with. Forced out of retirement at 50 years of age we get to experience his self doubts and his past regrets. He cannot exist without the demon inside of himself. Batman is a tormented and gritty sociopath just like his arch enemies, Two-Face and the Joker.

FRANK MILLER illustrates the graphic novel in the same noir prose that he employed for the ‘Sin City’ series. Gotham City is bathed in shadows and darkness twenty four hours a day. There are no heroes left in this city and even the caped crusader is viewed as a criminal because he operates far outside the parameters of the law.

The socio-economic-political statements that FRANK MILLER describes in the fictitious Gotham City resonate loudly today in real life because we are still looking for heroes to show to us what our moral responsibilities to each other should be. There won’t be any Batman or Superman to rescue us from ourselves. We are going to have to battle our demons alone.

jabba

As the world turns it looks like I might not be that dumb for being a college dropout. I mean yeah, I’m dumb, but I sure ain’t stupid.

The comparisons that I made at the beginning of the year linking nefarious public officials to characters in the Star Wars universe is proving to be prolific and prophetic. The good people over at Nah’Right ain’t just Hip-Hop anymore. As they broaden their vision they find some serious bits of real world news. Anyone with a car should really enjoy this one…

LEE RAYMOND (pictured above), the former chairman and chief executive officer of Exxon Mobil Corp., earned $144,573 for each day of the 13 years he served at the top of the oil company. In the final year of his contract he received over $400 million.

So while some of crack open your piggy banks to fill up your car’s tank just think about LEE RAYMOND and the sacrifices that he is making at this moment since stepping down as chairman of Exxon and don’t forget to say a prayer for the soldiers still in Iraq standing guard over the oil wells.
