starbury

It’s so haaaaaaaard to say goodbye to yesterdaaaaaaaay.

I was one of the biggest cheerleaders for STARBURY’s return to NYC. I thought that the Garden would be the place to reinvigorate his career and put him back on top of the pack of scoring point guards. In only a few years STARBURY has gone from being considered an NBA superstar to a glorified role player. I am in denial of this this just like he is. I wanted it to work this time, back in the garden, just like back in the days…

railsplitter

No matter where he went I was always waiting for him to come back home and reclaim his throne.

g.tech

But then he wound up in the land of lakes and Coney Island seemed so very far, far away now.

'wolves

New Jersey was a poor substitute for home when the place of your dreams is right on the other side of the Lincoln Tunnel.

nyets

What prophet doesn’t have to walk though the desert to earn his chops?

phx

It wasn’t supposed to be more of the same frustration once he touched back down at Madison Square Garden.

starbizzle

He was New York City’s prodigal son of the hardwood floor.

mickey dees

In the end I have to remain loyal to the orange, white and blue instead of any one player since the athletes change jerseys faster than if they were buying them on Delancey Street.

Will the Knicks be better after STARBURY exits? Probably so. Will N.Y.C. be better? I doubt it.

NBA TIGHT PANTS N.Y.C. LEGENDS

young head quarters

I need to give ISIAH THOMAS some credit for trying to bring New York City’s enigmatic prodigal son back to the city. Too bad the rest of his teammates mailed the season away back in October. A small measure of blame has to fall on the back of STEPHON ‘HEAD QUARTERS’ MARBURY for his inability to inspire his lockerroom mates to perform better. I also blame H.Q. for his own uninspired play under former N.Y.C. playground legend and Hall of Fame Coach LENNY WILKENS. Still I was hoping that another N.Y.C. legend might help H.Q. a/k/a STARBURY unlock the potential within that we all have imagined he had.

After a few seasons its become obvious that STARBURY couldn’t hold the umbrella or the Tight Pants jockstrap of Queens native MARK ‘ACTION’ JACKSON

action jackson

MARK JACKSON finally retired in 2004, after playing in the league for 17 seasons. He should be a lock for first ballot Hall of Fame status since he is second on the list for all time assists. JACKSON won Rookie of the Year honors in 1987 by setting the record for assists (868). MARK JACKSON bridged the gap from the Tight Pants era into the league’s current longshorts phase.

chris

One of MARK’s teammates during his fresman year at St. John’s University was then senior, CHRIS MULLIN. Another N.Y.C. high school standout who stayed in New York for his collegiate career, CHRIS MULLIN teamed up with a young MITCH RICHMOND and even younger TIM HARDAWAY to form one of the most potent offenses in league history. RUN-TMC was coached by DON NELSON, who incidentally had a turn at the helm of the Knicks.

kenny

KENNY ANDERSON was another Queens native that made it to the big show. ANDERSON was also the most hyped prep schooler until FELIPE LOPEZ hit the scene.

swee pea

Speaking of Queens, and talking about being over-hyped, there was a dude named LLOYD ‘SWEE PEA’ DANIELS whose career was almost finished before it even began. There is something about having potential and being from NYC that makes coaches and general managers hold on to some players way past their due dates.

hot rod

A player who lived up to the hype was ROD STRICKLAND, a teammate of MARK JACKSON’s when the Knicks drafted him in 1988. STRICKLAND was from the Bronx, but he chose to go to the second city and attend DePaul University after he graduated from Truman high school. JACKSON and STRICKLAND were both playground legends in N.Y.C. but neither of them had the street cred that my homie from Bed-Stuy had.

pearl & jimmy b

DWAYNE ‘PEARL’ WASHINGTON was an unstoppable scorer during his days at Boys (and Girls) high school and then up at Syracuse, but after the Nets drafted PEARL in the first round it was the beginning of the end for his playing days. At least PEARL always kept his Brooklyn swagger intact. Did you peep the orange and white low top Dunks?

tripped up

Feelings were bruised the other day in what many folks think was a cheap shot aimed at women in general. I should apologize for not making myself clear from the gate since I may have cost this site some of our much needed sponsorship. In the ever evolving debacle at Duke University there is a convergence of several themes that have been opined here at this website just in the last few months.

I hope this post can clarify my thoughts and hopefully those of the management at this website. Part of my mission when I joined the staff at DALLASPENN.COM was to take my provacative viewpoints to a wider audience for their perusal. I have a unique understanding of supremacy, racism, sexism, economics, classism and of course the light green ism, which comes from years of life in New York and the repeated failed attempts at completing the requirements necessary for obtaining an undergraduate degree.

So with that established I can proudly say that I know everything and simultaneously agree that I know nothing whatsoever. I speak the first random thought that comes to my mind and then I attempt to frame an argument around that thought. There have been hits and there have been misses. My goal is to hit safely as many times as possible. In the event that I strike out, I return to the sideline with the hope that I might receive another chance to redeem myself later in the game. To wit, I now return to the table with appended thoughts and notions about the criminal and civil proceedings in Durham, North Carolina that have impassioned so many of the users of the internets.

blue devil

I never liked the Blue Devils. I hate their nickname and I hate their mascot. It seems to be such a sacrilege, but I understand that these feelings are mostly steeped in emotions. Yes, the university was founded on supremacy, but what in America wasn’t?!? I hated Duke because I hated DANNY FERRY, BOBBY HURLEY and GRANT HILL (who wore that flattop waaaaaay past its due date). I hate the coach of the men’s basketbal team too because of his wanton waste of consonants in his last name. I bet there are Black folks right there in Durham that could use a consonant or two to break up their vowel laden surnames, but noooooo, Coach K has them all. I despise people that have the free time to paint themselves instead of using their spring break to maybe help paint a house in Louisiana. But I am smart enough to understand that those are choices that people decide to make and chances that they opt not to take.

paint club

I have equal revulsion for people who choose to raise children in the shadow of criminal activities. My mother was on welfare while she attended college and completed her undergrad degree. She never once had to succumb to the lure of selling narcotics or her body in order to put food in her home. Attending college engenders the actual student with, if nothing else, the ideals and values that your journey is as important as your goal. If you don’t understand that much then you are definitely in the wrong school. Is money so important that you would forsake your children to the state while you were incarcerated because your pursuit of money led you into a life of crime? That isn’t good parenting. That is being greedy, selfish and childish. I would expect that much from a late teenage college student, not from an almost thirty year old mother of two.

who ares

There will never be an excuse or permission for the rape or assualt of another human. Whether it be perpetrated by man against woman, woman against woman or in the highly publicized instance when Long Island teenage boys assaulted their male peers in a fraternized and ritualized hazing incident. Rape is a crime of brutality, force and power. The case out of Durham was so rabidly sensational because it reflected the history of American supremacy. Many of us are too young to remember the stories of the ‘Night Rides’ that took place all throughout the south and midwest United States, where bands of terrorists would disguise themselves with faceless hoods in order to pillage Black communities. Too many people wanted to believe that this instance was a new millenium ‘Night Ride’.

night ride

When in truth what this case is really about is a multi-layered criminal fiasco which began with a group of men paying $400 for two exotic dancers. When one of these men wanted to live out his fantasy he found out that the price for a small taste of heaven in fact wasn’t cheap. He may have tried to swipe his daddy’s ATM card in the escort lady’s rear, but that technique only works in NELLY videos so he became irate. The escort then decided to leave the gathering altogether. That should have been the end of the story, but instead this seasoned professional was coaxed back into the home she just left. This is a courageous move since she must have realized that her hosts were quite inebriated and also quite young. The escort however, was game, and she must have felt like like she could command these young athletes like so many of her other clients before them. It turns out that she could not control these young boys and she should thank GOD that her children are able to see her alive again.

The crime of prostitution and soliciting prostituion is a misdemeanor. The escort and any member of the team that explicitly solicited her for sex should be charged with the crime. If convicted, the escort should surrender her children to the supervision of the state for a period of time not greater than 12 months provided she undergoes counseling treatments. Any member of the team convicted of solicitation should be suspended from the university for a semester and be remanded of his NCAA eligibility for that period of time.

The crime of assault and battery is a felony and is punishable by conviction. Any members of the team that are convicted of this crime should be banned from the university and NCAA competition.

The crime of rape carries even stricter penalties when it is carried out by a group or gang of perpetrators. Any members of the team convicted of this charge should face the maximum penalties as permitted by law as well as banishment from the university and NCAA competition.

shitbag

We are never going to know the actual truth about this case, but some credit should be given to the Duke University lacrosse team member that provided the police with this shitbags’ e-mail transmission.

VOTE FOR PEDRO!

Vote for Pedro AF2's

“He will make your wildest dreams come true”
– NAPOLEON DYNAMITE

True story is that I bought these kicks for LARRY BROWN’s inaugural season on the bench at MSG, but we all know about the fiasco that the Knicks were this season. So now its baseball season and I’m still in a New York state of mind. The Knickerbockers loss will have to be the Metropolitans’ gain. This time I will buy some tickets early instead of playing the parking lot. I have a few VOTE FOR PEDRO tees left, they are all size 2x 100% preshrunk cotton. You could support the website and help me clear out my apartment at the same time.

vote for pedro

At least you’ll get a shirt and a follow up e-mail for your $15. I sent $18 to Beautiful Hustle because they were panhandling for scrilla and do you think they even sent me a thank you e-mail?!? Maybe they didn’t really need my chips and they were just trying to see who would piece them off. Well, I could use the money. I spend hundreds of dollars on my ‘snail mail’ projects and I could use some support from my friends.

Ultimately, my money goes to making the rich richer anyhoo. The Mets organization is plotting the big land grab along with the Yankees and I am ready to jump on the bandwagon early. The new stadium proposals that both of these teams have on their respective tables will cede the land to the ballclubs permanently.

site plan

The previous arrangements were that the ballclubs were tenants on city property and they paid the city rent (theoretically). In the new deal these clubs will own the land and therefore may develop the property’s with the uses that they see fit. The Mets ballpark will be smaller as far as occupant load which will raise the value of each individual seat because I can’t imagine that the greediest people on the planet would be interested in making less money. With less people in the park that means concessions will be more expensive too so that the bottom line is maintained.

new shea

I am not even gonna start bitching about the cost that the city will pick up in order for the Mets and Yanks to move into their new digs. I charge all of that to the game. It’s called Boardroom Hustling 101, bitches. I just want a place to visit on a sunny summer afternoon after the grass is freshly cut, and the kielbasa is cooked to a crisp, but not burnt.

Bread and circuses bitches, all I want is my bread and circuses

shaniece

All of the residual effects of winning a gold medal are still not clear, but there is some progress being made by jig athletes to market themselves after the Olympics are over with.

JAROME IGINLA has an action figure that is produced by McFarlane Sports.
