Schomburg Center, 515 Malcolm X Blvd., New York, NY

Join ImageNation Cinema Foundation and the Schomburg Center for the New York Premiere of Bell Rung: A Football Mindset. Scores of ex-players live a silent life of emotional, physical, and financial struggle resulting from their days in the professional arena, and endure lifelong struggles due to uncared for concussions.

Join moderator Michael O’Keefe of the NY Daily News, former All Pro Super Bowl champion Dorsey Levens, nuerologist Dr. Joelle Mast, director Zach Herman, producer Nick Basta and others, for a talk back following the screening.

Co-produced by Levens, Bell Rung asks the questions that need to be asked: Is it acceptable for professional football players to remain neglected by the league and owners as they confront a post-professional football life of disability and perpetual pain?

Should professional football players have to endure trauma-induced brain damage, early onset dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease, often beginning well before the age of fifty and resulting in astronomical medical expenses without appropriate coverage?

Is society content to allow these former sports warriors to be cast aside and forgotten when they are no longer part of our national entertainment? Bell Rung answers these seeks the answers.

Sucker For Love…

Monday, September 10th, 2012

Today wasn’t a good Christmas for everyone who loves football.

For Chad Johnson it was like Ebenezer Scrooge came thru and gave him a lump of coal. Chad can put that lump in his chest, right where his heart used to be. If Chad Johnson hadn’t wanted to love the spotlight so badly would he have been Chad Johnson?

Marq Spekt has a track titled ‘Skin Is Thin’ from his EP project ‘Broken Mazes’ with Gary Wilson that I feel describes the place Chad Johnson is living in right now. Evelyn Lozada wasn’t even with Chad when he was shooting the gym. SMH

Outfit Architecture…

Sunday, September 2nd, 2012

Just like your kicks are an essential part of the footings (foundation) to your ‘Fit, you have to also respect the rooftop of your design. Without a chapeau on top your outfit architecture might just be an open air courtyard instead of a hardbody building.

New Era is helping me take heads back to school with their composition notebook cover pro-model 5950 cap. Thankfully the MLB logo matches my true Yorker ideaology.

And then New Era freaked it with notebook paper print on the headband.

Don’t Believe The Hype…

Sneakerfiends have been lining up for a retro sneaker that shouldn’t even see the light of day again. The Patrick Ewing branded basketball hightops were fugaze even when they first were released. Everyone thought that adidas (Ewing’s OG sneaker sponsor) had made a subsidiary brand just for Patrick Ewing. Until people started seeing that the box had NO adidas iDs everyone was hoodwinked.

Not me tho’. The Ewing sneakers just looked ‘Forced‘ and by that I mean a rip-off of the David Robinson hightops. Plus, the sneakers were unfresh and only dopefiends could be spotted wearing Ewing brand sneakers. Them shits reminded me of Halle Berry and Sam Jackson as crackheads in Jungle Fever.

Halle Berry was gonna suck Wesley Snipes manhood for a pair of Ewings

Here’s a couple of YouTube highlight reels with Patrick Ewing wearing those nasty Ewing sneakers…

Getting dunked on by Scottie Pippen shouldn’t be the sneaker you want to honor Patrick Ewing with. At least not for me it isn’t.

These are the ONLY Ewing sneakers I will fux with.
