Fi-‘Lo is one of the original Lo-Lifes and an artist in Thirstin’ Howl the 3rds Skillionaires camp.
Think of the Brooklyn Zoo in all Polo and Fila gear. This will get that Drake smell off your iTunes.

Last night Chocolate Snowflake took me to the Japan Society for an exhibition they are hosting titled ‘Graphic Heroes, Magic Monsters: Japanese Prints by Utagawa Kuniyoshi‘.
It’s a display of these incredible painting by this master artist in a style called Ukiyo-e. These are graphic depictions of myths and ancient parables that were cut into woodblocks for mass printing. The Ukiyo-e are totally the fathers to the comic books and the graphic novels we enjoy so much today.
As I walked thru the exhibition and viewed Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s prints and especially his sketchbooks I had total recall of Frank Miller’s graphic novel Ronin from the early 1980’s. Kuniyoshi was describing epic samaurai battles with mystical apparitions and mega beasts 150 years prior to Miller but Kuniyoshi’s work looked as contemporary as the comics he inspired.
Where Frank Miller was influenced by the Ukiyo-e art wasn’t just in the concept, layouts and paneling of the stories, but most importantly in the printing of the images. A Ukiyo-e woodblock template is a precision based item hand-carved by an artist. Can you imagine the technique you must have to employ in order to print text from the woodblock? You have to carve the characters in reverse so that when the woodblock is printed it reads correctly.
Frank Miller was unhappy with the production of comicbooks. Because the process was so assembly-line oriented things like color separations and penciling details would get lost in the sauce. Peep the pages from the Wolverine mini-series that Miller did with Chris Claremont. See how the page coloring bleeds thru the paper?

Frank Miller wanted to use a different technique for the presentation of the Ronin graphic novel. He wanted to implement the Ukiyo-e style of hand painting each individual page and then have these pages printed on a premium stock of paper. Frank Miller’s Ronin became the inspirational format for the modern graphic novel.
Go to the Japan Society and see the artist that inspired Frank Miller.
Sean P and I mostly agree on shit when it comes to kicks (other than New Balance). We both have hell’a Dunks and Air Max and not so much Jordan brand shit. So I was surprised the other day when P sent me an e-mail describing the latest shoes on his wish list along with the joints that were receiving his vaunted “Emphatically 14 15” designation.
For those of you keeping score at home, when Ruck says “14 15” he is speaking on the 14th and 15th letters in the alphabet. The N and O. Non Cipher for all of you cats who are still 5-percenters. Nyet for my dude Dmitry Vortman and any other Russian heads up here on DP dot com. An emphatic 14 15 means that he wouldn’t get pictured in that item. Think Ricky Rothchild rugbys and the what not.
The shoes that P is fuxing with are the Air Force 1 Foamposites.
I don’t typically fux with Forces at all. I can count all my pairs of Forces on one hand. The idea of a foam Force was executed better with the ‘Forceposite’ design. These Air Force 1 Foamposites look like Frankenstein boots.
The shoes getting the ‘Emphatic 14 15’ are the Air Jordan Alpha 1 Outdoors FTLOTG (For The Love Of The Game – for those of you keeping score at home). I’m mad now because I fux with these joints. The Air Jordan Alpha 1 is being slept on by the masses.
Props to TheShoeGame.com
What do y’all Sneaker Fiends think? Are you fuxing with the Air Force 1 Foams? Are you shitting on the Air Jordan Alpha 1s? Is that powder blue colorway not the bomb. I’ma let y’all decide.
^ Props to cocotaso for the link…
The day grizzle has me up in some fancy spots again where I can’t walk around in sweatpants and a hoody.
To spruce up my summer steez and transform myself from a schlep to the quiet as kept prep school fool I caught these simple sole moccasins at the South Street Seaport for $40 cent.
Chocolate Snowflake’s co-sign was assured when she spotted the nautical theme inside of the moc’s insole lining. Not that she’s all shallow like that, but for the fact she knows that I am.
I’ve been having direct correspondence with Timberland over the past few weeks as I have tried to convince them to issue me a pair of moccasins in lieu of a return authorization that I have held with them for several years. A pair of sandals I bought failed me so I sent them back. Since the RA# that was created was for those sandals they won’t let me swap that out for the mocs.
Not even if I add some chips of my own.
At Timberland, a customer’s brand loyalty is only going to get you as far as a free pair of laces. Heaven forbid I might should take advantage of them. I’m happy with my mocs tho’ even if they aren’t the classic three-eye joints with the lug sole. The next order of business now is to satisfy this existing RA# before they cancel it. All this weblogging and TWitting I do about their products isn’t the kind of PR they really want.
I should be more like DirtyJerz and photograph my collection in front of a gorgeous waterfall backdrop.
I reviewed the sandal offerings available right now on the Timberland website and I ended up feeling the Front Country Adventure Sandal. This sandal speaks to my aspirations of returning back to my friend’s upstate cabin where I run thru the forest mostly naked except for a Polo Sport knit hat and a pair of Timberland on my feet, natch.
So tell me internets, which color do I choose?
