A LETTER FROM THE MANAGEMENT

I know you folks don’t want to hear about my money woes especially since I stay copping that so fresh and so clean from my favorite sneaker stores. The truth is that I don’t want to bother you either since we all are in the same boat floating in an ocean of debt.

Just don’t be too surprised when you see ad banners posted here in the near future. I will try my best to regulate every single company or corporation that uses this space. The ultimate purpose is have a website that pays for itself and everything that is required to maintain it. From bandwidth and domain registry to recordable DVD’s and snailmail postage, this site should be independent from my personal expenses.

Except my time investment, and yours as well. I want to give a special thank you to the six people who read this page daily.

graph

We used to have ten folks that read everyday but then I said something bad about OPRAH, or white, and now I am back down to six readers. ERNIE what up? I know you got at least one book to sell too. This starving artist shit is fugazi (no rich, upper-class punk rock band). I gotta come up on a master plan to get my paper back in order.

I got an idea from the executive director of the Black Maria Film Festival. He said that every year he and his wife decide to incorporate a ghetto word into their vocabulary. Last year they finally accepted ‘Bling’. Guess which word they are going to choose for FY ’08?

> PrA’li <

That is the new spelling for the word ‘prah’lee’ which was formerly the word ‘probably’. I’ve added some new features which should hopefully allow the word to become stuffwhitepeoplelike.

As you can see with the revised spelling I’ve taken a stand on consonant and vowel conservation. We have cut down on the letters being used and the syllables being uttered. This helps the Earth because less greenhouse gases will be emitted due to less energy being spent on writing and saying the word.

You may not use the word too often but think about all the people who are tragically undecided.

Invest in a better future for all of our children. Click the ‘Pra’li’ button on the right and send me some spare PayPal. You would do it for NPR.

drew reports

Billy X. Sunday is an armchair A & R…

This shit is simple in the crap music fantasy business. You can basically do whatever you want to do. You can sign Fifty Cent and Ja Rule to your label and make them into an R & B group with Amy Winehouse. I might start the cRap Music Fantasy League again if I get some paper from someone that makes managing the game worth my time. And when ‘if’ turns into a fifth I will be drunker than muvv.

So this joint I am doing right here is a freebie. I’m gonna intern at Atlantic since I hear they need some A & R help now that Y.L.G. has started his own media company (read: a blog AND MySpace page). I remember the old Atlantic recording studios at 1841 Broadway. Back in those days a young Guillermo Xavier Dominguez, that’s Billy X. Sunday to y’all, worked as a mailroom gopher for an architecture firm.

All kinds of musical talent would come to the studios to record, Steve Winwood, Billy Ocean, Carly Simon, Hall AND Oates. Those were the golden days of Hip-Hop. I think Barney Rubble recorded his Fruity Pebbles rap song in those studios. I wish I could have recognized back then that rap music would become so damn fruity? I would have invested in Fruit Roll Ups [ll].

So here we are twenty years later and Atlantic is still in the business of making fruity music. I’ve got nothing against Lupe or T.I. These dudes are ultimately company men, like myself. If making music about bullshit increases the companies bottom line then these guys are all in. But for how much longer will rap be a viable music commodity? Not too much longer methinks. So what do you do if you manage Lupe and T.I. in real life? If you managed these guys in the cRap Music Fantasy League you would hope they tried to rob a bank together and were caught. That would net you a lot of points. In real life, not so much.

In real life I would tell T.I. to use his government name on his next album. Not like Fifty did with ‘Curtis’, but to use his name Clifford Harris as his artist name. I’d call the album ‘Federal Arrest’ and have a picture of T.I. dressed in a FedEx outfit delivering a package to Tip. The concept of this album is the detail of feelings before his public fall. As Clifford Harris he could rhyme out the pathos of T.I. and Tip. Sonn would have a third alter ego based in reality. Real reality too, not that rapper reality which isn’t really real at all.

The main reason that T.I. has to adopt the Clifford Harris moniker is because of all the shit he is going to do outside of rap. I think T.I. can be a more effective brand pitchman than even Jay-Z. Think about this, LL Cool J and Jay-Z are both on the other side of 40yrs old and we still refer to them as their stage names. Is Jay-Z going to be 80yrs old and still using that stage name? Yes. When he had the chance to go in hard as Shawn Carter he didn’t do it. Steve Stoute must have convinced him that he would be rapping forever.

T.I. isn’t going to rapping forever. There is one more album after ‘Paper Trail’ and then dude is going Hollywood. First off, there’s no fucking money in rap music anyhoo. Maybe on tour, but who wants to be on the road 10 months a year? Other than the Roots. Copp that ‘Rising Down’ today. You get my point though. Plus if T.I. pulls in Cliff Harris there’s the chance of a T.I. vs. TIP vs. Cliff Harris single.

Fuck bi-polar, try polar.

arrest

BILLY X. SUNDAY reflects his thoughts while America’s war on the poor continues unabated.

Since I’m prah’lee like the only cat at this site that has intimate knowledge of the peripherals into the Sean Bell murder case I would be remiss for not submitting my $.02 (even though I still don’t have my W-2 from Harris – WTF?!?).

BOL raises an interesting point with the fact that Sean Bell’s economic status has as much to do with his murder than any other factor. Poor people in the United States stay losing. That’s just the facts of life playboys. We were all born to die. Poor people were just born to die faster and harder (no Daft Punk shiny leather pantsuit).

Peep all the shit that poor people have to endure in their lifetime… State sanctioned terrorism from the police, a legal system that prosecutes them even when they are victims, mis-education from derelict public schools and malnutrition from the quarter water corner store a/k/a bodegas. Someone needs to clone poor people because they survive some brutal shit on the regulack.

Sean Bell and his friends were poor people. The types of kids that would never think of taking a few stacks and putting that paper into an IRA Roth account. They prah’lee don’t even have checking accounts. The bar they went to was on the outskirts of their local neighborhood. Poor people typically don’t stretch themselves past the environs of the place they grew up. Shit is too complicated outside of the cocoon. Human relationships are too complicated with people who aren’t from the same neighborhood. Sheeeeeit, human relationships are already complicated enough with people in the same ‘hood.

In the county that Sean Bell lived in I can think of a dozen stripclubs better than the one he went to, but because he was poor he wasn’t going to find himself in an area that would be new or different. I keep saying that Sean Bell was poor. I don’t think you understand me though. Being a poor person doesn’t have to mean that you have no money or no expectations of yourself. It just means that you are mired in a caste system that devalues your existence. Sean Bell was going to be married the following evening so he obviously had expectations for himself, but he was raised in a community where the average person doesn’t achieve higher levels of education.

arrest

Let’s be clear on something else. I am part of the working poor myself. I have been waiting on my paper from XXL for so long that my cable and my phone are both disconnected, so I understand why Sean Bell ended up in that rundown shithole of a stripclub on the outskirts of the badlands. The police were poor people as well. Don’t think for a minute that even detective grade police officers can’t be poor people. Keep in mind that these men have a level of education equal to Sean Bell’s. These cops might even have been underachievers during their school career. Joining the police force in some ways is akin to signing up for the army. It gives the underachievers some measure of power and control when they never had these things previously.

The night of Sean Bell’s murder was a cocktail of drunken poor males, and several of them had guns. The drunks with the guns also owned a ‘Get Out Of Jail’ free card better known as a police badge. This exemption is critical since it allows the police to sober themselves and corroborate their stories prior to being presented to a query on their conduct. Ultimately, it is still the story of poor people killing one another. I wouldn’t expect you to not be upset about the turn of events that finally acquitted the police of murder. It is a shameful story of the abuses of conduct and deadly force. Similar to the story involving the Blackwater USA mercenaries that took place in Baghdad.

This is the modus operandi of supremacy. Poor people killing each other and being eaten by the system.

Wash, rinse and repeat.
