acknowledge greatness

J-Love and Meyhem Lauren’s album ‘Acknowledge Greatness’ is like the prequel to the ‘Lo-End Theory. There are features from Timeless Truth, Roc Marciano and Thirstin’ Howl the 3rd. J-Love maestros classic rap beats while Meyhem rips the microphone like a young beast.

‘Acknowledge Greatness’ is a double album of classic material. This album is tragically slept on. Here’s a few tracks that go harder than leather in any kind of weather. The ‘Lo-End Theory is still bubblin’ underground. We gonna get it together before its all said and done.

In the meantime and in between time fux with this real rap shit…

young malik

The NBA playoffs are in full swing so I thought I could take a minute of your time to remind you of one of my favorite players to come out of St. John’s University. MALIK ‘SILKY’ SEALY was a credible college player and a reliable pro roundballer until his life was cut short by a drunk driver.

Bronx born, MALIK was the product of the NYC Catholic school system and I cheered for him when he decided to remain home to play college ball in New York City. This was the kind of character that MALIK represented throughout his life. He never lived as a ‘me first’ player, but he accepted the role when it was handed to him. MALIK was selected in the first round of the 1992 draft. In his eight years in the league he established his value as one of the players that you wanted on the floor in the waning minutes of a ball game.

MALIK was on his way home from a birthday party held for his then teammate KEVIN GARNETT when his car was hit by a vehicle moving in the opposite direction on the wrong side of the highway.

I like the possibility of KEVIN GARNETT coming to the Knicks in the off season. K.G. owes New York City biggtime since he is indirectly responsible for the loss of two of our beloved favorite sons, MALIK SEALY and CONRAD McCRAE.

Rest in peace my brothers. I will be cheering for y’all again when I get on the other side of the game.

bearden

Respect everlasting to Romare Bearden. He worked with my grandmother at the NYC HRA headquarters on Church Street. My grandmother owned a couple of original pieces of his that ultimately had to be sold off after she passed away because the only one with money to bury her with a tombstone was my dad.

I’m mad at Nike for trying to sneak these Air Max 2010 joints in while the Air Max Attack Pack is front and center.

A nig already can’t pay his rent right. I suppose I should start selling off my kicks on eBay to buy the joints that I know I’m gonna wear. But then again, if I do that now what will Chocolate Snowflake have left to sell when it’s time to bury my dead ass?

grand prixb

If I told you guys that I had boycotted adidas hardbody during my detente with the brand then that would be a lie. I still copp adidas from time to time and I still rock them too.

It’s hard to break up with something that you have a long and intimate history with, except my ex-girlfriends, but they have changed phone numbers and filed for restraining orders so that keeps me at bay. My tennis shoe game is a love supreme. That’s the midwesterner in me speaking when I say “tennis shoes”. That’s what midwest people call EVERY sneaker no matter what activity it was created for.

My heart for adidas lies in their legacy tennis sneakers. I’ve spoken so affectionately about the Rod Lavers at the expense of some other styles that I feel deserve Holy Grail consideration if you can come up on them. The first one that I have been checking for this summer will be the Grand Prix. The Grand Prix should be a driving shoe since it is so clean and isn’t over detailed. I’m a big fan of premium materials and the Grand Prix always features a toebox made of suede or nubuck. The other feature that I love the Grand Prix for is the elevated arch support (peep that chisel in the outsole).

grand prix

I definitely don’t talk enough about the adidas Trimm-Trab. This is another premium leather tennis shoe that adidas crafted back in the 70’s but it wasn’t really popular here in the states because it cost so much at the time. The construction of the shoe is what made it so cost prohibitive. You see how adidas has the integrated plastic lace eyelets in the upper. That shit costs wild paper back in them days.

trimm trab

On my last trip to Paris I came up on a pair of the Trimm-Trab in a dusty flea market in Cligancourt. I copped the joints even tho’ they weren’t even my size. I ended up bumping them on the eBay system but for a few weeks I was the owner. The next time I go overseas I am going in hardbody for the hard to find kicks.

The sample sources from Ice Cube’s ‘AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted’ keep flowing thru my mind so let me know when y’all are tired of these joints…

Someone forgot to send the ‘Keep It Classy’ memo to Utah fans, altho’ it prA’li wouldn’t matter since most of them don’t even have electricity do they?

Yeah, Kobe Bryant’s all-white photo shoot is even a bit artsy for the world of fashion, but that is how they do in L.A. For most folks from Utah cave art is still what’s in fashion. SMH.

L.A. and Phoenix will tilt for the West title so it seems.
