fridaze

Still going in with this photoblog ish…

Beats & Brands had the free Ciroc for the people. Even the fools fell through. I see you Menasaur. The night started off dope like that and the Go In Brothers were in full effect. Shouts to CHAD MILLER. We had Ruffian in the building along HOBBS, Blagovelli, LowKey and a special Friday night appearance from XXL online boss CARL CHERY.

As you can imagine, the free Ciroc had folks twisted, but the party ended early and we all wondered what to do with the rest of our evening.

The Go In Brothers made an executive decision to motivate to Santos Party House. Right now Santos is the hottest shit on two wheels and that was evident by all the people that were standing on line waiting to be let in. Santos security wouldn’t let me in because I may have been too drunk already.

I needed someone with pull to zoop me in that joint. RapRadar’s ELLIOT WILSON and Village Slum’s MEL COLE both fronted on the kid. Fuck your real life celebrity status! Santos had a shitload of talent on the sidewalk so I sidewalk pimped until I got bored.

Ruffian dipped off on us when the Santos security started fronting so that left HOBBS, CARL SHERY and I. CARL being the enterprising cat he is made it inside of the party. He came back out to see if he could help HOBBS and I get in. I was too far gone to be allowed in on this night. I was starting shit with the security and just being the annoying drunk dude.

What was left of the Go In Brothers decided to go in somewhere that wanted us. We went to Sutra for Mikey Fresh’s birthday party. Sutra was packed and lively. I like this spot because they keep it underground and Hip-Hop.

Literally.

The basement party room was crazy. Mikey had a gaggle of Asian girls for me too. Too bad I couldn’t partake of the menu. I’m damn near married and I had a commuter rail train to catch.

There is the 2:30am train out of Penn Station and the 4:30am joint. The latter is filled with miserable alcoholics and junkies who remind you of your despicable mortality. The 2:30am train isn’t as bad. There are mostly quiet drunks and the like. It isn’t as depressing as the 4:30am train because you still have the possibility of doing something for yourself after you wake up.

When I am on the 4:30am train I know that my following day will be smashed and incoherent. The hangover and subsequent headache are almost unbearable. So why do I do this shit? Because I am an alcoholic and a junkie. Two steps removed from a twelve step ten years ago. I stumble and tumble towards tomorrow.

But for the grace of GOD here go I…

the roots

I have been blessed to have been in the building for much of the Roots crew residency at the Highline Ballroom this year. Each show has been incredibly individual in terms of talent showcasing and the artists’ showmanship. This week was no different as the audience was feted with some stellar veteran performances and some dope young talent on rise.

**‘Rising Down’ is still in stores**

Shouts to the OKayPlayer family and my homey Shamz, the youngest in charge, along with Tayyib Smith and the 215mag crew repping Philly all day everyday. The Roots $10 Jam Sessions program is on some str8 throwback shit to all the spots along Varick and Hudson Streets you used to be able to see these guys perform before the fame in the game finally came.

This is why its so damn fun to watch these guys in their element. They obviously aren’t doing these shows for the money or the tickets wouldn’t be so cheap. This shit is being done to save the music. Rap, rock, dancehall, soul, rhythm & blues, jazz. All of that shit needs saving because pop music and pop culture itself is threatening to devour art and the artists that live for this shit. If you can spare $10 in this economic downturn then I suggest you take that cash to the Highline Ballroom box office to aid in the rescue mission of our music.

Tanya Morgan came out and did a couple of songs with the Roots. DonWill is putting ‘Laura’s Song’ om iTunes. Don’t be a cheap ass derelict. Spend the $.99 cents to support good music.

the roots

Joe Budden came out and ripped the microphone. Let is be known that Joe has rhymes for days. He did an acapella which drove the crowd nuts. I’m looking for it now on the YouTubes.

On a night when Black Thought was slightly reeling from the exhaustion of putting in 20hr workdays its good to have a co-pilot for the spaceship that can keep you on course. Dice Raw is like Lando Calrissian on the flight deck of the Millenium Falcon. The rebels stay winning. The show must go on.

Giving Pirates A Good Name Again…

The Pittsburgh Pirates are doing their best to undo the besmirching of the word “pirate” that is taking place thanks to those poverty stricken folks in Somalia. Maybe ANDY VAN SLYKE and DAVE PARKER can petition the national press to rename the Somali thieves as “corsairs”? Or does that sound too swashbuckling? The Tunisians might take umbrage with that term as well.

Baseball season is back in effect party people. I’m shutting down my skittish reportage of the Association because the Knicks are so damn woeful, plus I’m not feeling this media coronation of LeBRON JAMES. Baseball is going to be my new girlfriend this summer. And why not? She loves catching balls in her mitt [[ll]]

It’s still early enough in the season to believe that everybody has a chance to be the champions. Despite my Mets losing their new stadium inauguration to the Padres I will still ride with them to win the NL East this season. JOHAN SANTANA is the effin’ truth on the mound and FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ deserves to have the Public Enemy song ‘Shut ‘Em Down’ played every time he steps on the hill. Here’s how I see the league shaping up this season…

NL EAST
Mets (winner)
Phillies (wild card)

NL CENTRAL
Pirates (winner)

NL WEST
Dodgers (winner)

AL EAST
Red Sox (winner)

AL CENTRAL
Twins (winner)
Royals (wild card)

AL WEST
Angels (winner)

I have every right to revise this list in June prior to the All-Star break and in July after the non-waiver trading deadline. For all of you folks who lack a cable provider like I do I suggest you log on to MLB Gameday over on the MLB.com website. Gameday allows you to follow baseball games in progress with a pitch by pitch by play account. It’s like having your computer fill in your scorecard for you so that you can do the important stuff like DL internets pr0n.
