Get Your Hand Out My Pocket!

ebay

I fucks with eBay directly and by extension through my use of PayPal since eBay own’s that website. PayPal is a convenient way to trade money for goods and services because the website looks so damn officious.

Quiet as shit is kept PayPal is also a bastion for thieves who have figured ways to manipulate that system as well. I’ve learned my lesson the hard way that you had better keep your tracking slips and shipping receipts for a few months after a transaction so that in case your buyer files a complaint you won’t get your account shut down.

eBay makes a grip off handling people’s money through the PayPal service. So much so they have decided to mandate a PayPal account for ALL of their users beginning in October. I feel a kind of way about this news. Checks, and by extension, checking accounts are being phased out of consumer transactions. Debit cards, with the function as credit cards are the norm for most people’s transactions, mine included. Cash is now firmly holding the stigma as the method of payment for only poor folks.

The truth is that I would use cash if I wasn’t so poor my damn self. I have $25 in my account before payday and I will be damned if I give $2 of that away to another banking institution as a transaction fee. Keep in mind that my bank will also be taking $1.50 of that total for their “out of network” fee. reminds me of the time I only had $21.48 in my account and I did an inquiry from a bank that didn’t hold my account. The bank charged me $1.50 and that dipped my balance below the $20 mark so I couldn’t even make a withdrawl when I did get to my bank’s ATM.

As shit gets more fucked the fuck up economically we need to be vigilant for all of these services that extract fees for no good gotdamn reason. These banking bastards be charging us to hold our money. At least a check cashing spot tells you what they are going to take from you the second you walk across the threshold. These banks and fake ass financial services companies live off the people that don’t read the fine print. I’m one of those people. Not so much anymore since the fine print is all I have to read other than the negative balances in my account.

All Day I Dream About Sneakers (USAIN BOLT 200m ReMix)

notre dame

One of the main reasons that C.S. and I traveled to Paris was to see if I could track down some rare and hard to find sneakers. There is a neighborhood in a Parisian suburb called Cligancourt that my friends tell me resembles the old Delancey-Orchard Street strip from the late 1980’s.

Sure enough, there were leather jacket dealers and sneaker traders everywhere. With no prices marked on the shoes it meant that you could ‘jew’ the dealer down to the price that you both agreed upon. Since I am a Black Hebrew, I have no problem jewing anyone.

There were all kinds of NIKE dunks and Air Max models to choose from, but this trip wasn’t about securing any more NIKE shoes since the swoosh brand and I were looking at being separated (and possibly divorced?). I was on the hunt for a pair of ultra rare ADIDAS. Paris is known to be a hotbed for the German shoe manufacturers products and up to this point I had seen some interesting pieces not yet available in the States. The shoes I wanted though were more than just a pair of collectible sneakers; they contained an incredible history that not too many people know about.

These were shoes worn by the Jamaican bobsled team during the 1976 Summer Games in Montreal.

First off I know what you’re thinking… Jamaican bobsled team at the 1976 summer Olympic games?!?!? And normally I would agree with you but that is how sick this story is. Because the games were being played in Canada, the Jamaican boblsed team assumed that there would be snow and therefore it would be their first chance to compete in the games. Can you imagine for just one second how difficult it must have been to practice bobsledding in the sand?

ganja sled

I guess the team had been smoking some of that good sticky icky for them to think there would be snow on the ground in July, even up in Canada, but nonetheless they packed their bags and their sled and headed to Montreal. As word spread on the tiny island that the bobsled team would be competing in the Olympics, several other Jamaican winter athletes were inspired to make the trek as well, in the hopes that they too might secure the ‘big gold coin mon’. How many of you know the story of WINSTON LIVINGSTON, the great steel pan drummer and professional speed skater from Jamaica? He would have shattered all the established records in the Sapporo Japan Games in 1972 if he hadn’t been disqualified for going around the track in the opposite direction.

The real hero, or should I say heroine of the 1976 Olympic Games, was MAVIS BAILEY. She was from a poor little town in the Parish of Saint Andrew called Cockburn. The seaside town was so poor that all of its residents had to share one single pair of shoes. Even though MAVIS was scheduled to compete, the week the games were scheduled wasn’t her week to wear the town shoes, so she had to go to Montreal barefoot.

little mavis

This is where the bobsled team stepped in (pun absolutely intended). MAVIS was favored to win the women’s 200m race and she was perfectly fine running barefoot , but the I.O.C. (the T.I.’s that run that Olympic shit) had mandated that all competitors must wear track shoes. VERNON HERDSMEN, the Jamaican bobsled team’s driver and the only member of the team that wasn’t detained by Canadian customs officials for narcotics possession, was able to lend MAVIS his sneakers so that she could run her race. MAVIS nearly won the gold medal too, but she unfortunately stumbled and fell when the laces from VERNON’s sneakers became untied. Sadly, she ended up finishing in last place.

poor mavis

Even though MAVIS BAILEY returned to Jamaica medaless and shoeless, it is her perserverance that I honor and respect. I found VERNON HERDSMEN’s her ADIDAS shoe at this tiny little sneaker stand run by an angry Arab (yeah, I know, show you a happy one).

The second best part of the trip was that C.S. and I were back home before they set that sneaker store on fire.

cat in the hat

A little over a year ago I threw these cats The Real under the bus didn’t I?

The truth is also that I knew I would PrA’li end up working for these cats one day. These fools work as hard as little Wayne. They PrA’li rhyme better too. In a short time these dudes got all Daft Punk on my ass by coming back harder, faster, stronger, longer and [ll] (no Jay Smooth) to all of these references.

I dream of the day when the internets will eff TV in the ‘A’. This is the dawn of the internets celebrities. Stand up all of you that are overweight, ugly, and retarded with speech impediments and birth defects. Our day has come and Hip-Hop is our soundtrack. The revolution is here party people. Hard work is the engine.

black student

I just found out that all the backslapping and glad-handing that the city has been giving itself for its improved performance public schools has been done without the achievement of Black kids, specifically Black males.

NYC’s Black Male Graduation Rates: The Lost Two-Thirds

This number breaks down to something like a 68% dropout rate for Black boys. True story is that I am surprised its not even greater. After Brooklyn Tech I couldn’t stand high school. There was no fucking excitement, no challenge and no stimulation. Mostly just a regurgitation of all the bullshit that I was fed for the prior ten years. Meanwhile, the real world was happening outside of the school.

What saves some of us Black boys are the alternative schools which farm us out to participating businesses as interns. The city gives these businesses the incentive to join the program with tax rebates. They aren’t just sending any nigga off the street to work inside an architectural office. You are vetted by the high school’s staff for your ability and attitude. Because I was already smarter than your average teenager I had no problem being placed in the area of my choice. Now how does the city do this for the other 300K Black boys failing out of school?

Black males are failed out of school too early in the game. High school is already too late to save these kids. Their programming, or de-programming is done damn near in kindergarten. Black males are singled out for disciplinary actions earlier and at a greater rate than any other kids. This becomes the population for special education programs which aren’t too special. Black boys find themselves in classes with the developmentally disabled and the physically disabled. Their self worth is negated even before they become teenagers.

The preparation that little Jamaal is being given will place him on the fast track to the prison industrial complex. Even in a wealthy city like New York you can see how Black boys are being sent in the opposite direction of successful adulthood. So many things combine at once to ruin Black boys minds. Poor nutrition, poor social values, poor educational options, basically poverty in a nutshell. When I see that 68% of Black boys are not graduating high school I realize that means at least 68% of Black males are living in poverty in NYC.

euro dollar

The good financial news for the U.S. is that there is more bad news for the global economic market.

Europe’s major economies contract

There is something seriously wrong with our domestic economy when Germany’s fiscal schadenfreude bolsters Wall Street. It’s not like the dollar is getting stronger, but the Euro and the Sterling are both taking knocks. We are plunging back towards the days when people bartered goods and services and men were assraped to pay off their rents.

I can’t believe that oil prices are blamed for almost everything. The truth is that economies are based on speculation by institutional investors. The folks that control the trillions, not the people using ScotTrade. I said trillions but the amount is really a number there is no word for. These are the folks that press the button that sends young men into the desert to die for oil, or diamonds, or whatever.
