I have to wear a late pass for the music of U-N-I. My boy Shamz from OKP has been hollering about these dudes from the gate and 2DopeBoyz has been pushing their sound early as well. I’ve been on some other shit though, not realizing that I am actually fuxing with these cats on the low [ll].
So I hit up the Bowery Ballroom last night to catch the U-N-I set and I got a little more than I was bargaining for. Kidz In The Hall and Warren G were also part of the bill. This is the Mountain Dew Green Label Sounds mini-tour and if you want to catch some free tickets to see the show at a later date go to the Green Label Sound site.
Peep U-N-I’s ‘Land Of The Kings’ video…
U-N-I gives me that stadium rocker feel when I hear the ‘Land Of The Kings’ track. I want to catch these dudes at an outdoor festival where I can crowd surf. Their energy is infectious on some swine flu type shit, but without the need for antibiotics. U-N-I deserves all the credit for using the internets to get their sound into people’s ears. Download some of their music from their Green Label Sounds webpage. Stop sleeping on these west coast artists and rap bands. They got next.
I don’t care what anyone says but I love these pics because they show the movement of Hip-Hop music.
Here’s a little clip of Blu & Exile from the 2009 CMJ festival. The west coast is poised to regain their dominance of the rap scene with artists like U-N-I and Blu who speak to listeners with contemplative flows and themes about everyday life. It isn’t bling rap or even that hot new fashionista rap(Wale) but its something a lot more realer and down to Earth.
Someone needs to shoot me some new Diz Gibran…
