Where Are You Yeezy?!?

Monday, June 11th, 2012

This weekend was pretty tumultuous for sneaker fiends and fans of KanYe West as Nike released the second edition of his signature Air Yeezy sneaker. I wasn’t as enamored with this version as I was for the initial colorways but I couldn’t deny the hype I was feeling watching everyone go ham on TWitter and various sneaker collecting forums prior to the release.

I thought I would use the hype to help someone cash in on sneakers they weren’t actually wearing to acquire the Yeezys. I put the word out that I was looking for the Electro-Lime Foamposite or the LeBron 9 ‘China’ edition and sadly to no avail I was left without the Yeezys or the shoes I really wanted. Thru all the strum and drang people did copp the Yeezys tho’.

Shouts to all the hypebeasts like myself who keep the culture alive.

Special shouts to On The Sneak Tip for bringing out their fancy camera to film the goings ons.

Super special shouts to the dimepiece hypebeast who was attracted to the MTV mic flag like a moth to a candle

If you didn’t see the ‘Where Are You Yeezy?!?’ parts 1 and 2 here they go.

Thank me later.

El-P’s Got The Cure…

Monday, May 28th, 2012

The DefJux rap revival went down crazy last week at Santos. El-P’s movement was rock solid and went line for line with him on his latest project. That is what you call a fanbase.

Matt Raz and I almost didn’t get inside but Despot stepped out and pulled us in. Just in time for the rappy business too. Despot opened the show with some new shit and his classic joint cRap Music. Despot brought out Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire during his set and let him rock some of his bangers for the people.

The rappers we saw that night comprised one of my favorite types of WTF lists with Despot, eXqo, Heems from Das Racist, Killer Mike and El-P. The show was a alt-underground rapnerd’s wet dream and El-P’s backing band kept shit funkier than I expected. Cancer 4 Cure is a DOPE album, but it’s more than a music project. El-P’s album is a testament to survival. In art, in business, in life. I’m gonna put it in the 2012 top list no matter what else drops from here on in. I think this is the future for underground rap music.

The Darkest Knight…

Sunday, May 20th, 2012

I’ve been peeping some Mike Mignola artwork covering Batman. Mignola’s steez is totally influenced by the Frank Miller, Klaus Janson minimalism of the 1980s.

Mignola’s style is way more esoteric tho’. He really brings forth the cultish Batman imagery. Are y’all getting hyped for this next Batman movie or what?

I’ll be at the midKnight release

Avengers Vs. X-Men…

Monday, April 9th, 2012

Combat Jack wants me to reclaim my comic nerd status so he has been pushing me to get back into reading comic books. I’m slowly coming back to the books but to be honest I don’t like the comic book universe as much as I did thirty years ago. Truthfully, after the death of Jean Grey and the murder of Elektra I prA’li can’t ever enjoy reading comics that much anymore.

Still I pick up books here and there when I see a cover that intrigues me or I flip through the trades whenever I’m in a library waiting for my turn on a computer (ugh, yes I’m a degenerate), but there really hasn’t been series that I’ve been intrigued by enough to follow at the comic book shop. Until…

Avengers versus X-Men. I never really liked the Avengers except when Neal Adams or John Byrne were on the pencils. The Avengers storylines were always meh to me. I liked some of the characters but they all seemed like they were forced together. The X-Men were more organic of a team. Their first plight was to save mutants from humankind which wanted to persecute them. The Avengers were like rockstars. No one really hated them other than bad guys. No one liked the X-Men.

Without giving away any spoilers to this new series opener I just have to comment on one thing. Why the fux does Captain America carry a gun now? To me he is no longer a superhero now that he uses a gun. Its not even a raygun. Captain America is just a regular ol’ cop now. The OG Captain America just had a shield and wild athleticism. This new Captain America could be George Zimmerman for all I know.

I wasn’t really into the writing or the artwork in the first issue but I’ll give the series a shot just like I did for Batman Odyssey which ultimately sucked the skin off a donkey’s sachs. I ended up buying the variant cover along with the first issue and both were $4 apiece. Take a look at this preview and if you fux with it maybe you’ll pick it up at your local shop. Ha. Who are you kidding? You’d steal money from out your mother’s purse first.
