Off To See The WZRD…

WZRD is the continued evolution of the artist Kid Cudi. He consistently eschews the labels of rapper and Hip-Hop artist to create music that compels his spirit. Cudi may never have been a rapper, but instead he is a kid who used rap to propel himself into the upper atmosphere. Now that Cudi is above the clouds he can fly free.

What may have been holding Kid Cudi tethered to the Earth were his addictions which he is happy to say he has discarded at this point. Salute this man for staying on his evolutionary timeline and producing an album which is genre bending like KanYe West’s ‘808 & Heartbreaks’ split the barrier of rap and soul music. Fux with WZRD.

Action Bronson x Party Supplies = Blue Chips…

You got a listen to what a Bronsolino x Party Supplies combo might would sound like with the ‘Contemporary Man‘ joint and now the project is fully realized with their mixtape titled ‘Blue Chips’.

Here’s what Action Bronson had to say about this project…

“Blue Chips is a project that allows me to give something back to all the people who have been supporting me during the last year. Party Supplies and myself linked up in the late fall and over the span of a few weeks created this project entirely off the cuff. We didn’t over think it, we just had fun making music with no pressures of making a “hit song”, clearing of samples or sales expectations. Thanks to the good people over at Reebok and our friends at Complex we are able to give it away to our fans for the nice price of Free.99. Forty Deuce Fisherman Hat Rap Revival…

To say that the Hit Squad Reunion show at the BestBuy Theatre was epic would be the definition of the word understatement. Hip-Hop hasn’t looked that good to my eyes in a very long time. The old and the new all in the same building. No compromises. No exceptions. No wack emcees. And all of this taking place in Times Square on a Friday night. This might as well have been 1992 instead of 2012 with all the Polo in the building.

Timeless Truth got things on and popping with their opening set. They were so on point that Erick Sermon asked me, “Who were them Puerto Rican dudes? They nice.” LOL.

Timeless Truth was nice and they had to be on this night. The Hit Squad doesn’t carry that name around for nothing. No matter who they brought onto the stage it was nothing but real classic Hip-Hop hit music.

Our man on the ground with the steadycam ToneRiggz caught some dope ass footage from the event. If the Hit Squad Reunion comes to a concert hall in your area don’t be a crumb and miss this show or Keith Murray might have to slap you in the mouf.

I literally lost my shit when Red brought out Meth. Red and Meth are still one of the most exciting combos in the rap game.

The night ended properly too with the ‘Headbanger’ [ll].

Is This What’s Fresh?

Future, Kid Ink, Danny Brown, French Montana, Roscoe Dash, Macklemore, Don Trip, Machine Gun Kelly, Hopsin and Iggy Azalea

I certainly can’t be mad at the nods to Danny Brown and Roscoe Dash who are both young verterans already in the rap game, but the annual list by XXL mag reminds me of how little I know when it comes to the rappy music. Maybe next year we’ll see Action Bronson, Maffew Ragazino, Meyhem Lauren, Troy Ave or Mr. M’F’N eXquire on the freshmen list?

In any case I should salute all these white people making rap music now and remind any young Black or brown kids I encounter not to do the rap music anymore. Their time, like mine, has passed them by.
