tc

ThunderCracker’s birthday was May 30th. I spoke to his moms for Mother’s Day. Gave her the update on the crew.

SoundWave jumped the broom and became a father again all in the space of thirty days.

Shotgun wedding?

There must have been several biscuits in the building because I know S.W. keeps one loaded.

TC’s mom was my mother sometimes just as much as my mother. When I say that she KNEW the shit that we got into was dangerous, but she wasn’t going to smother her son either I realized how hardbody a mom could be. TC’s mom warned me about getting him into trouble, but she also knew that he was better off running with me than with the other clowns in the neighborhood. I did dumb smart dumb shit. They just did dumb shit.

After my first arrest I decided that I had to come grand larceny or better since my father was going to kill me for it anyway. I was more scared of my dad, and Thundercracker’s moms than ANYONE in the city. I was still a glorious knucklehead though, but I made sure the stakes were high since I had to be responsible for people other than myself.

I am sorry for her that TC isn’t with us any longer. He will always be with me though.

Just ask SW, that dude TC was a rider. There’s no way on Earth he isn’t coming with me when I go to L.A. or Chicago. TC’s bornday was May 30th. Crazy as it sounds, but I just lost another good friend on May 30th. DESMOND MARGETSON was an 80yr old civil engineer that worked with me for the last ten years at my day job.

DESMOND was the most unassuming, humble person I have ever met. For all of his decades as a professional engineer I believe it was being a practical philosopher that DESMOND enjoyed most. His exuberance for life and for learning was overflowing. One of my favorite lessons from DESMOND is his approach to living the game of life. DESMOND liked to play by quarters. He said that if this was the system that bankers used to get rich we should all take heed. DESMOND would always ask me towards the end of March, June and September how my quarter was, and what plan did I have for the next one.

I slept on DESMOND when I first met him. I didn’t realize how much greater he was than the job he did. DESMOND was literally bigger than the whole thing. For a Black man to receive credit in the New York Times means that he must have really figured out some stuffwhitepeoplelike. Since DESMOND comes from Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard I’m sure he would be rooting for the Celtics to win the ‘chip this year.

Peace to you DESMOND MARGETSON.

GOD blessed me with your friendship.

Hipster Rap Hot Tracks…

hipster

What is hotter right now than hipster rap music?

The Cool Kids, the Knux, Kid Sister and KanYe West have everyone wearing keffiehs and drinking iced cafe lattes. What’s more is that they have removed the focus of rap lyrics away from the themes of streetlife and drug sales depravity.

Unfortunately, the theme of debt has now replaced the depravity. Be careful what you wish for Hip-Hop, because you just might get it. Socially, we couldn’t afford to continue listening to nihilistic rap any longer, and now I listen to narcissistic rap about shit that I can’t afford. Y’all folks certainly don’t want to see my ass in any skinny jeans either. Anything I dropped on the floor would have to stay there or else I would have asscrack in everybody’s eyesockets.

You don’t ever have to worry about me wearing skinny jeans but I love my new wave 1980’s Euro pop music even more than Mr. West does. Am I in danger of becoming a hipster rap fan? If loving music from the 1980’s means that I am a hipster then call me your blipster. Synthesizer technology was complete by 1981 and as I sat in my parent’s basement with my Casio VL keyboard and my Commodore 64 computer I dreamed of being a robot one day. So don’t knock hipster rap music because it will one day lead to robotic rap music which is the harbinger of the rapture.

Check it… I just wanted to play a few songs for you, and its 4am, and I am drunk. Just listen to these tracks sampled from one of the great 1980’s new wave synth jams.

Happy new year Jonathan!

I need for all my friends to really get with this program on Saturday June 7th. Rooftop Films and New Design High School present a day-long music and graffiti art festival at Open Road Rooftop, a beautiful urban space overlooking the Lower East Side that is decorated with magnificent graffiti murals.

Due to city and state-wide budget cuts announced early February, New Design is being forced to raise money or they will have to discontinue numerous Arts Integration Programs, which include after school and summer initiatives, programs that enable them to keep their students in a creative learning environment. To help support one of our partner schools, Rooftop Films is helping to organize a spectacularly festive event in this stunning rooftop space.
