I would like for some of you that aren’t particularly fond of sneakers in the same way that I am to start looking at some of the details that attract me sneakers. I don’t imagine that you will ever admire sneakers as I do, but I would like for you to appreciate some of the design details that go into their creation.
Today’s drop will focus on the stitching that secures the upper materials. I love when the manufacturer uses threads that contrast with the upper materials. That contrast can be somewhat subdued as it is with the classic adidas Toronto running shoe.
The threading that encircles the toebox is slightly off from the dye uses for the upper’s sueded panels. This gives the forefoot areas definition but the shoe still retains an overall conservative look.
Now for a more stunning look at the effect of contrast stitchinf I choose the adidas Originals ZX700 running shoe.
This is the instance where the contrast stitching dominates the shoe and really highlights the upper panels configuration. Note the double stitch line in some areas that acts as if you placed the boldface tab on a word or sentence.
Contrast stitching is one of many techniques that designers use to strengthen the looks of their footwear and one of my favorite elements. What are your favorite elements, materials and/or techniques?
