Our Jersey homegirl Digital Femme had a link to these images on her TWitter timeline so I grabbed up the ones that made me feel that kind of way.

Capitalism Needs Some Compassion…

gulf oil

The similarity between the two ecological disasters in the Gulf coast region was that the government entrusted the well being of its citizens to private corporations: the company that was supposed to monitor the structural stability of the levees and the company that was supposed to ensure the safety of the oil drilling apparatus.

The problem with public safety is when it doesn’t add into the bottom line.

Capitalism is a machine that is bigger than my understanding. The whirring parts that distract me are there to diffuse accountability. The thing we know for sure is that the machine makes money, but who gets it? And isn’t the responsibility of protecting the people ultimately the obligation of the dude getting all the cake?

Capitalism needs compassion for it to remain sustainable.

Otherwise it has to devour everything. Naturally.

Retirement Is The New Career Choice…

It couldn’t last forever could it? I mean, the internets was going to have to die at some point, otherwise we wouldn’t grow. We’d just continue in the status quo. Last week Byron Crawford announced what is essentially the end of his website. He’s decided to leave blogging at ByronCrawford.com to people who couldn’t carry weed for Ron Mexico. I don’t mean the real Ron Mexico, I mean Michael Vick.

Except for Jimmy Valentine. That guy’s good. [ll].

Bol’s retirement from his own website kind of reminds me of Michael Jordan’s retirement after the Bulls beat Phoenix in the Finals. And then his dad got merc’ked. And then we found out that Jordan had a serious gambling problem. I’m not wishing any of these things on my internets buddy Bol, but I wonder why he would step away from the game he has mastered instead of just waiting until someone finds him dead on the toilet?

If that was good enough for the king of rock it should be just fine for the king of the internets.

But the real question is what will the rest of us do? This blog shit is awesome fun, but the pay is shittier than a truckstop watercloset. I’ve vacillated on quitting my blog several thousand times. The point is that I can’t maintain the pace that I would like and within that pace I can’t produce the editorial quality that I think y’all deserve. I would’a been done kill’d myself already except I have a horribly low tolerance to pain. But this blog is gonna have to die someday soon.

What’s left for the writers and the dreamers?

melle mel

Melle Mel‘s bornday is today.

George Carlin’s was this week too.

Taurian nature is forceful and direct.

It gives us profoundly poignant poetry.

My people at Cornerstone put together a nice little evening to celebrate the culture and broadcast the re-launch of the of the Sedgwick & Cedar brand.

It was a nice little night to reminisce over you Hip-Hop…
