BLACK COP = COP SHOT…

June 2nd, 2009

Now I hope you didn’t come here this morning for some feigned outrage over the killing of this off-duty police officer in East Harlem last week. You won’t be getting that commentary here today or any other day for that matter. OMAR EDWARDS had to die. The police have been looking for him ever since their sketch artist got his first box of #2 pencils.

Internets, I’m about to say some shit that I only want the Blacks that come here to read. If all you good white folks, Asians and assimilated latin people would be so kind to visit my Twitter or YouTube pages for a minute I would be most grateful.

Black people…

Now you damn well know that even you had a reservation towards looking homeboy in the face. Even though he’s DEAD! Can you imagine how that officer felt with this man ten or twenty or fifty yards away from him with a gun in his hand? That smell you are noticing are the endorphins from stark fear. Whether you know it of not that smell now blocks and locks the rest of your senses. You couldn’t hear this cop yelling back he was also a police officer because you are in full-on fear mode.

The boogie man syndrome is fucked the fuck up but it is realer than a motherfucker. Fearing the Black man is some shit we all have to contend with here in America. Fuck it, abroad too. Word to Zwarte Piet. Popular literature and culture has been pushing this agenda for so damn long it is now part of the human genome. At least its embedded deep in our psyche and it ain’t coming out no matter who the president is.

I just learned that D.W.GRIFFITH made nearly five hundred movies in six years. His legacy doesn’t end with ‘Birth Of A Nation’ because the movie is still playing on the projectile reel. We are all actors in this feature called the ‘Boogie Man Syndrome’. Sometimes we are the tormentors and other times we are the tormented. It all depends who is watching.

NYPD officer DERWIN PANNELL’s role in the crosshairs was sadly reprised by DESMOND ROBINSON and then officer ERIC HERNANDEZ. While only last year CHRISTOPHER RIDLEY was the latest officer to give the boogie man syndrome to fellow police before OMAR EDWARDS FATAL encounter. I don’t have any examples of mistaken identity of white officers, but you prA’li already knew that.

*Someone please let the white folks back in the room*

As I was saying, if Black officers would just wear their children to work in Snugglies maybe we could curb these incidences of, ahem, friendly fire.

Mtv = Dead 2 Me…

June 1st, 2009

When was the last time that Mtv really mattered? For me it would have been the Jackass years. That was the last time that I watched Mtv with regularity. That was the last time I think that network was truly, ughh, relevant. Since that time I feel like Vh-1 has come through with the edgier programming that wasn’t so artificially funny. Let’s not get it twisted either because Vh-1 is definitely superficial, just not artificial and there is an important difference.

The fart jokes and college humor that made Beavis and Butthead a staple of television entertainment have been replaced by cheap staged stunts and shit that old people would find funny. If old people like your joke then 9 out of 10 times your joke sucks. Not to disparage old people and the people that think like old people, but we are not you. We used to be down with you but we stayed youthful and humorous. You got old and boring. This is why Adult Swim pwns empty-V all day every day.

Mtv was jammed up a few years back when confronted with the fact that they were over twenty five years old. While that doesn’t really matter to me since I am long since past that mark it matters to those that use superficial timeline constructs. Vh-1 has no such problem. Their demographic was always post-teenage anyhoo. It was Mtv that made the mistake of marketing itself to 16yr olds instead of realizing that market was fickle in the first place.

The last thing a 16yr old wants to do is some shit that OTHER 16yr olds are doing. Mtv could have let one of their sub-channels be the place where the JONAS brothers had the unplugged concerts instead of the main channel which needed to stay in the adult themed realm of music entertainment. I’m sure that Mtv execs had been shitting their pants ever since rap music became a pop music juggernaut. There weren’t enough videos from emasculated rap acts like the Black Eyed Peas to fill up their programming slots.

Now that rappers are wearing their younger sisters stretch jeans maybe they can get some spins on the video channel if only the video channel still played videos. I’d love to be a consultant to the Music TeleVision network. Lord knows they don’t have anyone over there that is willing to kick open the doors to the executive suites and beat the crap out of the current programmers. Everyone is simply content to keep their mouths shut and just collect their checks. Pretty soon the bottom will fall out of that game and then you don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone.

That’s One Expensive Hummer…

^ That’s what SHE said.

General Motors goes belly up on the first day of June and the U.S. government prepares to lay down an additional $30billion to set things straight in Detroit. The $50billion total payout gives a new meaning to the term ‘red light district’ as GM gets paid for the most expensive hummer of all time.

As you can see, DP TWit game proper…

THANK GOD 4 GIL SCOTT-HERON…

May 31st, 2009

gil scott heron

I caught this video series over at M-Spekt’s website. I was so blown away that I almost got some dust in my eyes. GIL SCOTT-HERON has been one of my heroes for such a long time and to learn that he was also inspired by JOHN COLTRANE and LANGSTON HUGHES was such a shot in my arm this weekend.

We sometimes don’t think to make the connections to the artists as activists because of how commercialization has watered down so many of the messages. Let it be known that GIL SCOTT-HERON chose to be a prophet over making a profit from his creative talent. He was so far ahead of everyone else because he was so human.

GIL SCOTT-HERON reminds me of my father because of the truth to power that he is unafraid to speak. He was right out in the front of dissension when the government sought to silence the people that protested the war in southeast Asia and the war on the poor here stateside. GIL SCOTT-HERON paid the price 10x over with his own battle with addiction.

I don’t find myself in a temple or church too much nowadays but I find different ways to thank GOD for gifting me these breaths. Before you go out today watch some of these video clips and become truly amazed for the man that GIL SCOTT-HERON is and maybe even find the challenge through his words to become the person that you want to be.
