Official Spaceship Status…

the roots

I have been blessed to have been in the building for much of the Roots crew residency at the Highline Ballroom this year. Each show has been incredibly individual in terms of talent showcasing and the artists’ showmanship. This week was no different as the audience was feted with some stellar veteran performances and some dope young talent on rise.

**‘Rising Down’ is still in stores**

Shouts to the OKayPlayer family and my homey Shamz, the youngest in charge, along with Tayyib Smith and the 215mag crew repping Philly all day everyday. The Roots $10 Jam Sessions program is on some str8 throwback shit to all the spots along Varick and Hudson Streets you used to be able to see these guys perform before the fame in the game finally came.

This is why its so damn fun to watch these guys in their element. They obviously aren’t doing these shows for the money or the tickets wouldn’t be so cheap. This shit is being done to save the music. Rap, rock, dancehall, soul, rhythm & blues, jazz. All of that shit needs saving because pop music and pop culture itself is threatening to devour art and the artists that live for this shit. If you can spare $10 in this economic downturn then I suggest you take that cash to the Highline Ballroom box office to aid in the rescue mission of our music.

Tanya Morgan came out and did a couple of songs with the Roots. DonWill is putting ‘Laura’s Song’ om iTunes. Don’t be a cheap ass derelict. Spend the $.99 cents to support good music.

Joe Budden came out and ripped the microphone. Let is be known that Joe has rhymes for days. He did an acapella which drove the crowd nuts. I’m looking for it now on the YouTubes.

On a night when Black Thought was slightly reeling from the exhaustion of putting in 20hr workdays its good to have a co-pilot for the spaceship that can keep you on course. Dice Raw is like Lando Calrissian on the flight deck of the Millenium Falcon. The rebels stay winning. The show must go on.

THE WRIGHT STUFF…

Nike Sportswear continues their Hall of Fame series of events moderated by No Mas’ CHRIS ISENBERG. The Mets’ All-Star 3B DAVID WRIGhT was the guest for the most recent session.

WRIGHT is a classy guy and one of the understated talents in the MLB. He doesn’t generate the headlines that another 3B in NYC gets but that doesn’t bother him one bit. I doubt we’ll ever see pictures of DAVID WRIGHT kissing himself in the mirror. His head is squarely pointed [ll] to winning a championship for the Mets.

My question to DAVID WRIGHT was whether or not chemistry was an overused and overrated term for professional sports teams. WRIGHT said that chemistry could not be overlooked even for the teams that had the talent to win despite being dysfunctional off the field. I couldn’t get my second question in which was going to be who sleeps over who’s house?

Does DAVID go to JOSE REYES crib or does CARLOS BELTRAN and JOSE REYES stay at his pad? These are important beaseball questions. I’ve been off my video camera game this past week because I’m out of DV tapes so kindly enjoy the still pics from the evening.

DAVID WRIGHT discusses the highs and lows of being a professional ballplayer.

On hitting: What other job can you fail 70% of the time and still be considered great?

On fielding: GARY SHEFFIELD hits the ball hard [ll]

On winning: Nothing in the world feels better than a game winning hit.

I think my still cam’s flash was starting to annoy him.

FUCK MIGHTY CASEY!

April 16th, 2009

fmc

For this morning let’s take a mini-break from the usual DP commentary.

I must be on my way to some modicum of success if all of these rappers are hating on me. In this episode of DP2FTV our good friend Marvelous Mo captures some Fuck Dallas Penn! on her Flip cam courtesy of Boston’s own Mighty Casey.

I need more h8t’rs like this dude in 2009.
