Is It Real Sonn, Is It Really Real?

the real

The brothers from The Real have been putting in hell’a work on these internets over the last year. When I first peeped their steez I wasn’t feeling them because they seemed to be disconnected to the subjects they were riffing on. Kind of like a comedic troupe of carpet baggers. As time has passed they have honed their craft with sharper writing and mostly making sure that every week we get a brand new video from them.

I see these dudes all around the city. They move like me, except there’s two of them. They were at the DeCon Media party and they also were in the Mark Ronson showcase. These dudes are definitly Internets Celebrities. That’s what someone called them. When Mark Ronson played the Georg Kranz classic dance hit ‘Din Daa Daa’ we all sung along. The twins told me they made a video to this song. I told them to send it to me so I could post it. The video is actually good.

I fucks with The Real now. They have a cool sense of humor. Plus, these niggas recognize that evolution begins and ends with hard work. So why not whistle while you work?

JOHN BYRNE’s FANTASTIC COVERS…

October 23rd, 2008

fantastic 4

The Fantastic Four is the comic book that JOHN BYRNE created the most covers for. Over seventy were done including several annuals and fanzines.

The Fantastic Four is Marvel Comics oldest title. This is the book from which so many other characters of heroes, villains, extra-terrestrials and supernaturals arose. The F.F. is Marvel’s G.O.A.T. book and when JOHN BYRNE was given the full reins for the title he created something special and, well, fantastic.

As usual, JOHN BYRNE channels some of the great artists that preceded him in order to craft his cover images. In keeping with the books title the cover art would often break through the fourth dimension. Not so much in an M.C. ESCHER type way, but in the sense that these characters communicated freely with the writers, artists and the readers.

The Fantastic Four could be a trippy book at times under BYRNE’s helm. He never lost control either but the spinning carnival ride did get so crazy that even Ben Grimm had to take a timeout. The Thing was replaced for a time with She-Hulk.

Crazy? Yes.

Fantastic? Mos def.

CMJ Day 1: M = Marathon…

October 22nd, 2008

cmj

The College Media Journal Music Festival is effing reederkulon3000.

There is too much shit going on in too many different places.

Last night I skated through the West Village before going to Brooklyn and returning to Freeport.

NYC was on fire.

The DeCon Media shindig was dope. The DeCon family was in full effect and they got me right inside of the club. I was there primarily to see 88 Keys, but I was pleasantly surprised by Aceyalone’s mic skills and Izza Kizza’s energy.

88 Keys album ‘The Death Of Adam’ is a concept joint with the theme of the vagina being the universe’s most all powerful force. While typing that sentence I had the Freudian slip of the word “moist”. I should’a left it right? 88’s song ‘Nice Guys Finish Last’ is that knock and there is a track with a Redman feature that I need to have in my life. DeCon?!? Make this happen for me.

88 Keys – ‘Nice Guys Finish Last’

The next venue was the legendary S.O.B.s on West Houston Street. This is the last real piece of Hip-Hop NYC alive. This spot was hosting the MARK RONSON allIdo showcase and I arrived just in time for Wale and U.C.B. If you have a chance to see Wale backed by the classic Go-Go band U.C.B. please take advantage of the moment. Live band Hip-Hop is so very necessary. U.C.B.’s percussionist Slump is a fucking genius too.

I got a chance to build with Plain Pat and Kid Cudi. Too bad for me I was already drunk and high. I forgot the name of Kid Cudi’s track called ‘Love Stoned Freestyle’. That shit is my fucking shit for real. Plus the ‘Day ‘N Nite Crookers Remix’ is the theme song for the iNternets Celebrities F.I.T. Club.

Kid Cudi will be one of the handful of dudes on XXL mag’s December cover that you will still hear from several years from now.

I might have played myself by telling Plain Pat my plans to make a fanboy video to ‘Ye Tudda’s ‘Love Lockdown’. I need to shoot that video ASAP now so that these dudes that aren’t on the ‘nets all the time see how ill I get it crackin’. My new name when I am directing videos is going to be PRIK GORDO. [ll], of course.

I finished the night watching my homey JOELL ORTIZ spit his shit in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It’s crazy to have a career come full circle. From rhyming in ciphers on Williamsburg corners to finally making it inside of the building. JOELL didn’t even take a fee for appearing either. He asked the promoter to donate the fee to a program for bringing computers to kids in the area. JOELL’s aim is to give kids the information that the world outside of Williamsburg is filled with unlimited possibilities. This is why fam is my favorite rapper. He is never gonna get a Maybach this way, but at the end of the day he is way more important to the kids in his community.

Stay tuned for my interview with JOELL ORTIZ. Stay tuned for more CMJ updates…

DP.COM STUDIO SESSIONS…

STATIK SELEKTAH’s new album ‘Stick 2 the Script’ dropped today. The album features ridiculous cameos from everyone. No, really. EVERYONE.

My favorite track features verses from TALIB KWELI, SKYZOO and my number one nigga on the mic trigger, JOELL ORTIZ.

Talking ‘Bout U (Ladies)’

I got a chance to visit the studio when JOELL came through to lay down his verses. The environment was focused and all about work. I almost made my own rap song, except I can’t rap.

At all.

What I need to do is stay in my lane and ‘Stick 2 The Script‘.

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND, THIS LAND IS MY LAND…

benedict powell

I have been in a shitty mood lately when my mind thinks of the sad state of politricks here in the U.S. Maybe it was always this bad, but because there was never a viable candidate that was non-white(respect to mother queen SHIRLEY CHISHOLM) I never had the opportunity to watch supremacy dig in its heels to retain its control.

Some of the things that I have seen and heard are silly. Almost infantile to the degree that they appear formulated by scared children who feel abandoned in the mall parking lot. The image at the header was submitted by a syndicated cartoonist who equates General COLIN POWELL’s support of BARACK OBAAMA with that of the treason committed by BENEDICT ARNOLD. That is a twisted mind who conjures the image and still has too darken the skintone of the caricature. It’s just because of shit like this that I told Combat Jack ‘Fear Of A Black Planet’ is the greatest rap album of all time. Just for the title alone.

Then I find myself even more depressed after I watch a video of Ohio residents. I knew these folks were tragically miseducated but this reminds me what exists all across this country.

All of this supremacy has almost made me forget about the ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In the asiatic desert young Americans have been submitting their supreme sacrifice so that I can continue to buy sneakers, drink copious amounts of free alcohol and live with openly racist people.

The American soldiers that have died defending my rights were Black, white, Mexican, Salvadoran, Filipino, African, German, Irish, Indian and even a few Koreans were in the mix.

The soldiers were also Christian, Jewish, Agnostic, and yes, Muslim.

No matter their race, creed or religion, they were all Americans.
