Why hasn’t this been made into a television series?
Shouts to my dude A.King from PNC Radio who put me on to this documentary screening at my local watering hole. SODA Bar on Vanderbilt Avenue was hosting the screening. HBO pictures produced this tight little doc about the relationship that two of basketball’s supreme competitors now share together. Magic & Bird is all about the obstacles that these two men had between them when they were pretty much mirror images in their love for the game of basketball and how hard they were willing to work to become winners.
What made the film so compelling is that you got to see a side of Larry Bird that made me wonder why I h8’d dude so much (other than the fact that he was a Celtic). Larry Bird grew up wild poor. Hardbody poor. Magic’s family wasn’t wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, but Magic’s dad didn’t end up merc’king himself like Bird’s dad did. Larry Bird was obsessed with Magic [ll]. With his stats and his achievements. Bird used Magic to propel himself faster and harder [ll]. Magic only wanted a hug from Bird. This shit was more than a bromance, these two wanted to mouf kiss each other.
At one point in the film while Magic was being interviewed he broke down into tears recalling the moment that Larry Bird called him up to ask how he was doing after Magic had publicly disclosed that he was HIV+. For Larry Bird, he secretly viewed Magic as one of his siblings that he constantly fought with but cherished dearly. This fuxing documentary almost made me get a piece of dust in my eye like that gotdamn Antwon Fisher bullshit. I pounded on my chest tho’ and the dust went away. Still and all, this was an incredibly revealing film for these larger than life NBA characters.
The Association needed Magic and Bird and the level of competition that they brought to the league. Magic and Bird needed one another for the challenge of competing and then later on the camaraderie. If you are a fan of the Association then you need this documentary to show you how these two players combined to save professional basketball. Bryant Gumbel’s commentary in this film was heeelarious. The filmmaker’s research and the archival footage used was vainglorious. From the Sopranos, to The Wire, up to Curb Your Enthusiasm, Home Box Office stays winning. Make sure you DVR this movie so you can watch it on repeat.
Magic & Bird: A Courtship Of Rivals

Nets fans were surely still celebrating the team’s 6th win coming against the Boston Celtics so you might could imagine a let down was inevitable when the Nets matched up with the morale depleted and manpower decimated Washington Wizards.
Wiz guard Randall Foye who grew up in Newark decided to punish the Nets. Can you imagine how hard dude would have gone in[ll] if the Nets played in the Prudential Center on Market Street in downtown Newark? Sonn would have been a monster.
Why aren’t the Nets playing in Newark anyhoo? The Prudential Center was built for an economical $375M. That might be the reason the Nets haven’t moved their yet. Their ownership is trying to squeeze more money from the taxpayers for their subpar product.
That figures, isn’t that how Jay-Z sold the Blueprint 3.
BTW, scoring streak aside. Kevin Durant is the Association’s MVP this year.
I’m mad I didn’t go to the Association’s All-Star game in Dallas. From all the previous joints I attended I can tell you that there was reckless stunting going on. The All-Star game is like Juneteenth on the regulack and this year it was in Texas so you know there was folks up in that piece wearing mink underdrawls. Str8 foolishness.
You know ThunderDome was up in that piece too.
Vince Carter is the man version of ThunderDome [ll]. Not because I think he gives Dwight Howard awesome brain, but because that fool got a massive cranium.
While the ballers were on the court putting it down the ballers were in the stands as well. I know there were chicks walking around Cowboy Stadium stunting in these retarded Air Jordan high heels.
I can tell by the construction that a lot of big girls copp these joints. I h8 to see big girls rocking the skinny-heeled joints and the heel be all stressed and buckling. These joints look sturdy enough to handle some truck thighs.
Not that I support buying fake sneakers, because I don’t, but these heels are just the type of shit that I could see Nike manufacturing after learning about all the customers copping them from the chinaman.

As MANNY enter the second year of his 2yr deal with Los Angeles he appears to wistfully pine for the days when he was in Cleveland. MANNY could be carefree then because he was still in his early twenties and he was going to live forever. Now that he is in his late thirties and his best years are firmly in the rearview mirror sportswriters collectively wonder what MANNY has left in the tank. Last year’s post-suspension play was not MANNY’s best look.
I wanted him to come to the Mets so badly and now look who I have instead, JASON BAY. Why do you torture me like this Lord?
I wonder if the Mets would consider acquiring MANNY to use in a RUSTY STAUB type fashion and switch him over to first base? CARLOS DELGADO is washed up and needs to be put down anyhoo.
