A Party Fit For The King…

Happy New Year MICHAEL JACKSON!

The celebration that Brooklyn gave to MICHAEL JACKSON for his birthday was fit for a king. Better still THE KING. The sun peeked its face onto the thousands of people gathered in Prospect Park’s great meadow. Some will even say it was the humidity and dehydration that had some of Brooklyn’s most notorious hard rock gangsta’s passing out on the great lawn but I know better. The spirit of MICHAEL JACKSON came down to Brooklyn. He should have felt right at home.

Spreading love is definitely the Brooklyn way and it looked like the entire Brooklyn showed up for the party.

SPIKE LEE didn’t just put his weight behind this event. He actually showed up and kicked it.

DJ Spinna isn’t new to this, he is very true to this. Are you ready to jam extra hard before Jouvert this upcoming weekend? Then make sure you are in the building for the KeiStar Productions MICHAEL JACKSON vs. PRINCE shindig. Believe you me it is the ONLY way to prep your dancing legs for the West Indian Day parade.

MICHAEL JACKSON impersonators were in their absolute glory. I never understood the fascination that some people had with dressing up like Elvis. It all made sense to me on this day. The MJ impersonators were singing and dancing and making us happy with the memory of MJ. There was nothing weird about them. They were actually very magical. Just like the day was.

13th

I haven’t been as active on this site for the past few days because I’ve been transfixed on the photostream of the 13th Witness.

I’ve always been a huge fan of photography because it deals with some of my favorite subjects in every frame.

History and movement.

The frame represented a specific range of time and within that range it describes whatever the light gave to the lens.

The 13th Witness has been teaching himself how to manipulate an HDR camera and the results are quite often breathtaking. I’ve captured just a few of my favorite images.

The shots from the NYC subway system are equally stunning because the movement and the structure of the underground system are both on display.

Like I said to you earlier. I have been looking at these pics for days.

Tony Stark, Private Dancer…

Further proof that the economy hasn’t recovered from the recession is the fact that Tony Stark is back to drinking bumwines and poledancing while in his Iron Man armor. If an arms dealer can’t make ends meet in this economy, none of us can.

Also…

Ladies, are you drinking too much?

red hook

Editor’s note: The pic above was sent to us from the intrepid BK journalist Willis Still Sunsweet, from WhoWalkInBrooklyn, who attended the DJ Premier x DJ Scratch performance hosted by CityParks in Red Hook. Willis was with us at the BlackMoon Boot Camp show in Crown Heights as well. The scene in Red Hook looks a lot different from the outset. Folding chairs at a Hip-Hop show? Brooklyn, no actually Red Hook, stand the fuck up! I’ma let Willis Still Sunsweet tell it…

Peep Evil Dee at left getting his photo taken with mad Asian crate diggers… The scene was okay, mix of ‘hood, Asians, white beat kids and curiosity seekers but you know how these things are– not the most compelling musical experience.

Danny Castro brought up some cat from Detroit, Niles Davis (?!) before who did a L-O-N-G “Phantom of the Opera” rap over symphonic bluster. It was ok but hard to get hold of tho’ he did take off his fisherman hat a lot.

Danny Castro had his history mixed up a bit, saying we’d all get shot 10 years ago, which ain’t true at all. 20 years ago Red Hook was a rough place but mostly on ladies of the night who didn’t make enough paper for their pimps…

Best part of night is stopping at Fairway for crab meats…

Fairway fun fact: that used to be a police impound yard in mid-late ’90s. Do you remember when ODB was all in the news here with his alleged shoot-outs, traffic accidents, etc? That was also last visible gasp of mafia killings– an “associate” thrown out bleeding from car by Grand Army Plaza, BODY FOUND IN TRUNK of car at impound yard, etc.

Brooklyn, MAKE SOME NOISE!
