SNEAKER FIENDS UNITE!

Saturday, March 17th, 2012

Reebok’s homage to Jean-Michel Basquiat isn’t just honorable, it’s evolutionary. Basquiat’s influence within the pop culture art scene is part of the Hip-Hop godhead. Basquiat is the voice of the disenfranchised and eternally creative. There is no definition for this spirit and the only word we can find to be a synonym is FREEDOM.

Thanks to Reebok for blessing me and the Combat Jack Show staff with these kicks. #Respect

Bargain Basement Lifestyle…

Friday, March 16th, 2012

The lifestyle acquisitions never stop even when I come to Atlanta to see ‘Dukes. I always get a few pieces just on the strength that moms stays holding an official Macy*s coupon. Shit, I remember when Macy*s wouldn’t allow their store coupons to be used on Polo Ralph Lauren. Lord & Taylor was the official tissue with the store coupons back in the day but now it’s Macy*s for that reduction love.

The coupon ‘Dukes was holding would give me $20 off a purchase of $50 or more so the game was to find something for $50 and then end up paying $30 which is basically like getting 40% off the ticket. I found a pair of cargos for half off original MSRP($98.00) and this nordic sweater marked down to $46.75 from the original $225 ticket. The only thing I had to do now was find an item to add with each piece to take me above the $50 dollar mark. I went to housewares and picked up some $2 tchotchkes. Done.

The sweater matches up with swag worn on the television show Glee. I think that makes me cool now (or ghey *pause*). Ha! I’m more hyped for the fact I paid $30 for this I.T.

After All These Years, Still A Momma’s Boy…

lil darry

Maya Angelou said that when she used to go visit her mother she would always make sure to wear something nice. Even if she didn’t have any bread at the time, since this was before she had sold books and the what not.

I try to keep that in mind when visiting my mother in Atlanta. I know that she would like for me to go to church with her or at least out to dinner with her (it was her birthday/new year) so I packed a swag pair of leather lifestyle loafers that I hadn’t popped a tag on yet.

I caught ’em at Marshall’s on clearance a few years back. I knew she would dig that. LOL. I learned from the best.

‘Aspirational Apparel’

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

The big homey Jesse Thorn (The Sound Of Young America, Bullseye and in general a guy who FUX with me) asked me what I knew about Polo Ralph Lauren collectors. What?!?

The concept behind the ‘Aspirational Apparel’ phrase I have been using is that Polo Ralph Lauren allows me to imagine myself to be gentile, monied, well-traveled and accomplished. This is the MAIN attraction for everyone who wears Polo RL. Everyone. It gives the wearer a level of class sensibility. Growing up in a blue collar community, wearing Polo RL gave you a white collar when you Put This On.

DP Quits The Shoe Game…

Monday, March 12th, 2012

I’m about to take a sabbatical from buying sneakers after I got this news yesterday. I just did a drop on the release of the white/red Air Jordan XIV (14) and then I learn that Jordan Brand IS re-releasing the Black/Red (BRed) XI (11) sneakers for the December holiday rush.

WTF?!? I predicted this shit after all the madness from the retro XI ‘Concord’ release this past December. Nike just retro’d the BRed XI’s in a package back in 2008 and now they are going back into your wallet again with a higher unit price on the same shoes.

Yo, I swear after I copp these Air Jordan 2012 ID ‘Altitudes’ I am not buying another sneaker for the rest of 2012. I’m not even going to buy a ‘comeup’ pair of shoes. Nothing. Nada. The sneaker game is now for fools and childrens. I’m dipping off from the game until Nike retros the Galaxy Foamposites.
