A year or so ago my homey from L.A. the TechWhore sent me an album that I was sure would change the sound of Hip-Hop. The title was called ‘Niggaz and White Girls’ and it was produced by Bay Area rappers Kirby Dominant and Chris Sinister. They essentially sampled all of the best new wave tunes from the early to mid 1980’s and added their Cali sensibilities to the rhyme flow. I thought that it was a breath of fresh air from all of the homoerotic gangterism that was populating the genre. It’s a fun album and there are several skits that play around with the inappropriate title of the disk. At the end of the day it’s just good Hip-Hop music.

I’ve been meaning to expose y’all to some of these tracks since I enjoyed the album so much. There’s a little bit of profanity here and there so put on the headphones if you are in the cube at the 9-2-5. Otherwise pump up the volume and enjoy the BARACK OBAMA meets HILLARY CLINTON mash up, or as I like to call it – O.J. and NICOLE BROWN in rap music form.

mascot

For my brother from another mother, JASON RAY, who attended the University of North Carolina and was the team mascot. My dream is to one day return to college and to wear the costume of the sports teams mascot. When I do, it will be with the memory of my fallen brother who lost his life doing what he loved the most.

A moment of silence goes out to all of you who have crapped out of the college basketball pool. There’s always two ways to win at DP Dot Com and the Bonus Points pool administered by LM will be completed by this weekend. I’ll be sad when this shit is all over, maybe we’ll do a pool for the NBA Playoffs? Let me know what you think?

Here’s the current Bonus Points tally…

P-CITY = 8
LM = 6
CASHUS CLAY = 5
The DALLAS = 3
SASHA = 3
CB4 = 2
J trademark = 4

In the meantime and in between time I will hold on to my dream of becoming a school mascot. You do know that you are allowed to do anything you want to a co-ed as long as you have the costume on.

street fight

BIOCHEMICAL SLANG!
Why don’t you mail that DVD I sent you to someone in the cipher and let them experience the film? I’m talking about this classic dope 1970’s Black power flick called ‘Street Fight‘ a/k/a ‘Coon Skin’. It’s a revolutionary movie on so many levels. For one, the storyline exposes how supremacy uses several organizations to keep Black people in check. It’s hot shit that you need to fucks with. As a matter of fact…

Los Angeles stand up! Your boy QUENTIN TARANTINO is hosting his Grindhouse Film Festival at the New Beverly Cinema and tonight they are screening ‘CoonSkin’. So get your ass up off the couch and go see a classic film starring PHILLIP MICHAEL THOMAS. BARRY WHITE and the legendary SCATMAN CROTHERS.

street fight

RALPH BAKSHI was also a trailblazing filmmaker for his style of using animation over real photo backdrops. This added to the gritty, dark personality in some of his films. I find myself trying to figure out where some of his locations were filmed at in New York City. The technique brings a surreality to his art. BAKSHI is one of the best to ever do it.

Speaking of RALPH BAKSHI…

I got an e-mail from some cats at www.thenursery.tv about a cartoon series they developed that they thought I would like. They were right. Their work is funny and highly influenced by BAKSHI’s art. I also noticed that some of their backgrounds were shot in my old stomping grounds like Washington Square Park and the the Fun Factory in Long Island City. Good shit. Peep game…

starbury

Get with this hot shit party people, my homie from MSG is hooking me up with discounts seats to see the Knicks play. These aren’t the sold out games against the Cavaliers or the Heat, but the other home games that remain on the Knicks schedule.

  • Thursday March22 vs Trailblazers**
  • Monday March 26 vs Magic
  • Wednesday April 4 vs 76ers**
  • I placed the asterisk at the games that I am definitely going to. I chose them because I think the Knicks will demo the ‘Blazers and the Sixers. The Magic will be a tough draw since they are fighting for a playoff berth as well. The deal is that we get 50% off the $60 tickets and 50% off the $44 dollar tickets. As you can imagine I will be in the $44 seats, but 50% off means that I basically buy one and get the second one free. Don’t tell C.S. because she will make me upgrade. To sweeten the deal just a taste everyone that copps a ticket will get a Knicks Fan kit.

    knicks stuff

    All you have to do is go to this NBA.com webpage and enter the promo code: MARBURY

    Hit me up on the e-mail and let me know which game you are going to and how many Fan kits you need for your group. As a matter of fact, here’s how we do it…

    I will mail a Knicks Fan kit to the first person that can answer the following Knicks trivia questions…

    1) Which guard has scored the most points in Knicks history?
    2) Who has the most rebounds and blocked shots combined as a Knick?
    3) How much was Bernard King’s highest scoring game as a Knick?
    4) Name the year and playoff round that JOHN STARKS headbutted REGGIE MILLER?

    Answer those few questions correctly and I will bless you with some free shit from the Knicks.

    af yard

    I’m totally in chill mode this weekend but I thought that I could at least put y’all onto something that I’m digging on…

    The Afflicted Yard is one of the sites that I imagined I could be when I started officially blogging. Although dude is a bigtime photographer it’s his ability to mesh his art with politics that I appreciated. T.A.Y. makes Black women look good, real good, and good looking Black women he makes them look stunning.

    He celebrates their youth and their determination. He highlights their swagger. Take a look at his photogallery for women. Don’t be embarrassed, it’s still Women’s History Month. Call it research.

  • On a separate note regarding photoblogs…
    DP Dot Com is on the esteemed blogroll over at the D-Nice Journal. It’s a big look for me because D-Nice was the original blog that I read before I had this website. From that site I found IAN from A Different Kitchen and then ByronCrawford dot com. After that the rest is history. Now that my blogging experience has come full circle maybe it’s time leave “the game” as the cRappers might say…

    Hell to the nawww.

    I still got too much trouble on my mind.
