Saigon Caught A Body…

saigon

Saigon’s ‘Grestest Story Never Told’ is better than I thought it would be. Just Blaze did a masterful job of orchestrating a motion picture soundtrack for the album. Saigon uses the soundbed to explore every emotion that comes thru the mind of an emcee.

This album deserves to be this good tho’. I mean, it did take like forever to get released. I’m glad that both the artists kept their focus and their faith. You can imagine how easy it might have been to scuttle the idea of this album being released and then moving in a different direction.

Navigating the music industry is like running a marathon and not a sprint. Finishing quickly usually means your career does the same. Saigon must have learned the patience for the profession during his stint in prison. Now you see rappers like T.I. and Ja Rule trying to catch up to where Saigon has already left.

The first will be last and the last will be first.

Here’s one for the fellas…

Saigon featuring Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz – Come On Baby (Remix)’

And one for the ladies…

Saigon featuring Raheem DeVaughn – ‘Give It To Me’

A banger for the jeeps…

Saigon featuring Q-Tip and Fatman Scoop – ‘The Invitation’

And an anthem for the streets.

Redbone In Blackface…

Poor little rich girl BeYonce can’t seem to get any good press lately. Her latest media kerfluffle is about the chic artsy photos she took for some French fashion mag. In the photos she has makeup applied to darken her face.

About gotdamn time!

BeYonce’s ENTIRE media history presentation has been about highlighting all of her features which are Eurocentric. Her fake blonde hair. Her airbrushed lightened complexion. Her blue eyes?!?!? The only way BeYonce has identified with the Black experience in America is her silly name. Okay, my bad, also her Venus of Hottentot backside. My bad for omitting that.

Black girls have the hardest way to go when they choose to be fashion models. The industry that fetishizes Black girls does not fux with them fashionistically. This is why folks are consuming hair straightening and skin bleaching cremes like its nobody’s business. Still and all, Beyonce’s team wouldn’t know how to spin this story if I wrote it for them.

It’s Black History Month (ugghh, yeah I know) followed by Women’s History Month. Maybe someone could knock on Tina Knowles cement wig and tell her that her daughter is an icon for BLACK WOMEN. She should be pwning February and March as iconic as she is right now instead of backpedaling away from this story. Black women come in a myriad of complexions and BeYonce should act like she is celebrating that diversity.

MEYHEM LAUREN IS SOOOO ILL…

meyhem

Meyhem Lauren released his debut project last week titled ‘Self Induced Illness‘. The project is a double album of beats and rhymes dedicated to NYC’s golden era of Hip-Hop. Instead of being on some when-they-reminisce type vibe it remains true to the spirit of the early 1990s music which was to stay low, bag hos and stack figures. With the occasional night out with the fellas to get drunk and beat the shit out of someone caught slippin’.

Fuck what you heard, that is the essence of NYC rap. You take each day for what is given and you realize that somewhere nearby someone isn’t as fortunate as you are. That is the perspective Meyhem employs throughout this project. You can clearly hear it in some of the classic anthems he has crafted like his paean to all graff writers ‘Got The Fever’.

I’m happy that Meyhem Lauren made this project so comprehensive. 41 tracks is a lot of music and I wouldn’t suggest that you listen to this album straight thru unless you are making a run from New York to Richmond with one of those things. But with this project you have a complete Meyhem Lauren portfolio. You get the panoramic view of his flows and his rhyme skillset. Meyhem Lauren is a fresh man, fux that XXL corporate bullshit.

The Outdoorsmen crew has ample features and that means Action Bronson and Meyhem do their Lethal Weapon duo shit hardbody. I love some of these J-Love tracks which are so reflective of 90s era rap. Thorotracks, Juelz Polar and Nickle Plated also supply some sonic bangers to this project. If you want to hear some rap music from the radio then don’t click any of the links I’ve supplied below. This rap right here is too real for your radio. Meyhem Lauren is too ill for that bullshit.

Meyhem Lauren – ‘Still Golden’

Meyhem Lauren – ‘What Kind Of Life’

Meyhem Lauren – ‘Queens’

Meyhem Lauren fest. Animal – ‘Amigo AKA We Stole Fire’

Meyhem Lauren – ‘Another Hustle’

Meyhem Lauren – ‘Cash Is King’

Meyhem Lauren feat. Gab Gacha, Action Bronson and Animal – ‘Day After Day’

KanYe Only Used Some Of The Lights…

ye tudda

KanYe’s latest album is filled with so many talented collaborations that I thought he would make sure his visuals contained that same global perspective. Instead he takes the song which along with ‘Lost In The World’ has the best universal sound and makes a very narrow-eyed video.

Sure Rihanna has nice tits, but I can’t get past that silly red wig. She looks like the Wendy’s fast food restaurant chain mascot’s bastard child. Hype Williams is skating on his rep at this point by copying the conventions of other people’s videos.

I hope KanYe goes back to his arthouse ambitions for the next video.

This pop art shit is wacksauce.
