REEL TALK w/ GENERAL STEELE…

Smif n Wessun - Dah Shinin cover

When I initially plotted this interview with Steele from Smif-N-Wessun it was to kick shit about Timberland boots and for how long he had been a collector of the brand. Our conversations quickly found all kinds of other places of relativity, and relevance, like the culture of consumption, the pain and joy of making music and society at large.

Steele is one of the people the great spirits have entrusted with carrying culture from one generation to the next. That requires a perspective to contemplate your role in the chain of life. You have to be humble even when you understand how great your mission is. You have to be ready to sacrifice yourself for your destiny.

These reels are a total of a half an hour. The same amount of time you might use up watching a sitcom. I’d respectfully request you give that same part of your attention to an artist who has twenty years of work behind him and even more than that in front of him. All because of one thing… His reverence for the WORD. First came the word which put everything in being.

You gotta change the names of your sneakers to shit YOU fux with and not necessarily fuxing with the marketing that the manufacturer promotes. At the end of the day you are still consuming but you aren’t being consumed. There is a difference.

This is why I call these Nike sportswear shoes my Advanced Reconnaissance Commando Foamposites after the clone troopers who served the Old Republic on the Hoth system.

Chocolate Snowflake’s late father, Roy DeCarava, is being featured in an art exhibit currently sited at the Whitney Museum (Madison Avene/ East 75th Street – NYC) titled Blues For Smoke. The exhibit features photographs, paintings, collages, sculptures and other interdisciplinary artforms to not simply describe blues as a musical genre but as an aesthetic for motivating creative people to do what they do.

This is the same way that Hip-Hop informs me of what to value in my life. My outfit architecture was simple and clean. Y’all know I love prints and colors but I chose to be somewhat muted in my presentation.

Lavender is the springtime flavor for rebirth and regeneration. The Fair Isle scarf was my popp tho’. Better than having a sweater in that pattern all over my fat body the scarf says ‘Lifestyle’ to all who know my steez.

Internets! Be careful what you pray for because God may give it to you.

I begged Combat Jack to add a video element to the show he was recording. Today is THAT future in full force.

Today the Combat Jack television show starts taping in Bushwick Brooklyn. This is my outfit architecture for the show. Navajo lined cardigan with leather elbow patches ($75) and the navajo scarf ($30) from Polo.com thanks to T-Bag’s link.

Sean Price killed me one day saying I wore ‘Big Daddy’ jeans. I may have burned every pair of carpenter jeans I owned that very night.

Strictly 501 button fly classics from here on.

One word… UnFUXwittable.
