The saga of Dontrevius Wenters lives on as Terrence and I had a chance to bring Dontrevius into Madison Square Garden, but this time with a media credential.

Dontrevius walked on the hallowed hardwood and kicked it with fans and Knicks legends alike.

Get Ready For Combat…

Friday, January 13th, 2012

The Combat Jack Show with special guest Touré was one of those rare glimpses people will see which has a REAL discussion on race in America and the repercussions created by honoring this made-up social construct. Touré came to discuss the meaning of his book titled ‘Who’s Afraid Of Post-Blackness‘. What is Blackness? What is the value of white priivilege? Why is Combat Jack (and conversely Touré) an Uncle Tom? Why is Premium Pete a racist?

My favorite part of the show is when Touré ethers me on Boston Celtics history about that franchise having the ‘Jackie Robinson’ of basketball. Chuck Cooper was one of the first few African-Americans drafted into the NBA in 1950, but Earl Lloyd of the Washington Capitals was the first to play in the NBA. Still, his remarks held a piece of truth and that is all you need when you want to be a race trader. Touré knows this from a lifetime in defending all of his values against his Blackness.

As you will hear, the discussion was lively and filled with moments of clarity and humor. I salute Touré for having the courage to even enter the arena. You gotta be ready for combat if you are gonna be a guest on the Combat Jack Show.

The 10 Best YouTube Sneaker Channels

WTF?!?! Complex Mag giving me a shout on one of their 10 Best lists is like giving me the cheatcode inside the game package. I. Can. Not. Lose!

Now all I gotta do is get back to making sneaker fiend videos. Be careful what you wish for Internets because you just might get it. Then what you gonna do with it? That’s the real question. What you gonna do with it?

Just Blaze NYC Takeover…

Monday, January 9th, 2012

I showed you my Outfit Architecture that was built to hang out with Just Blaze for his sneaker launch/birthday celebration this past weekend in NYC.

I ended up replacing the toggle coat with a zip-up sweater due to the autumnal temperatures still hanging around the northeast.

Before I would join Just Blaze I had to meet up with the Swedes who were still in town shooting some video. We hopped thru Flight Club and then sat down for a sec inside of Cozy Soup & Burger to chat and chop up how I might help them become better at making web videos.

Ha. As if I would know.

Next stop was the Supra store to preview the Just Blaze x Supra ‘Skytop II’ and to have a little piece of cake with the birthday dude.

The cake was reedirk and the shoes weren’t bad either.

Just Blaze is the consummate impresario and he hosted the rest of the evening in the most gracious and professional manner I have ever seen. I couldn’t walk the Swedes into the Supra store to have them enjoy some of the free Smirnoff being liberally poured to partygoers. Just asked me if everything was good and I told him I couldn’t get the Swedish film crew inside. Just immediately went to the doorman and had the Swedes let in. BONG!

After everyone ate cake Just Blaze invited me to join him and his peoples for dinner. No, he really invited me, like, “Dallas, come with us out to dinner. I know YOU hungry.” LOL. He was sho’nuff right.

Dinner was at this official Japanese BBQ joint across from The Cooper Union. Combat Jack did his Von Trapp thing and brought the whole family with him. Just Blaze basically bought dinner (and several rounds of drinks) for 50 people. As the food arrived Just went from table to table asking everyone if they were enjoying themselves.

The next stop was for the after-dinner party at Tammany Hall where Just would be the host while many of NYC’s legendary deejays would spin mini-sets to move the crowd. Stretch Armstrong, Evil Dee, Clark Kent and others had the joint rocking all night. I dipped outside to see if I could bring in Premium Pete who made the drive into the city.

Good thing Just came outside for a minute because I wouldn’t have been able to do anything since the line was down the block. That was essentially how the night went as Just Blaze moved all around the club environs making sure people’s glasses were full and their smiles were wide. And keep in mind this was HIS birthday party.

You can learn a lot about people by how they treat the folks who can’t further their fame and acclaim. Just Blaze treats everyone like a celebrity and treats celebrities like family. Even Internets Celebrities. There’s definitely a reason success in various platforms continues to find his doorstep time after time. I’m just feeling lucky that he showed me how its done.
