kixpys

Last night I had one of the best times on the internets that you can have that doesn’t involve downloading German smut videos.

NiceKicks.com presented their annual Kixpys sneaker awards and the show was hosted by my folks from Obsessive Sneaker Disorder. If you haven’t been part of the OSD live broadcast then you don’t know what you are missing. It’s the chance to argue, co-sign, show love and hate to everything happening in the world of sneakers. From time to time the show touches on stories that occur outside of that realm but the discussions are still framed around the love of sneakers. I don’t really know what else to say about the program other than the fact that if you are a sneaker nerd you will feel like Norm does every time he walks into Cheers.

If I’m not in the streets going in hardbody at an obama I am on the phone taking part in this one of a kind program that reaffirms the reason I am a sneaker fiend. OSD was the perfect venue for the Kixpys since this is the one place that spent the entire year commiserating and congratulating all the nominees. The big winner was DJ Clark Kent who took home two awards and also took the time to be part of the program. Clark Kent is a pretty generous and humble dude if you don’t know him, but if he feels comfortable around you he will talk that shit. Clark went in with everyone for the length of the show. He talked about his passion for sneakers as art and as footwear. He also told us that he had some projects in the pipeline that would eclipse his award winners.

The 112 Pack by Clark Kent

The 112 Pack was a tremendous release for NIKE and for Clark Kent. I think that Clark certainly give NIKE their street credibility. NIKE is already popular enough but the edge that Clark Kent gives them is non-pareil because there aren’t too many people that can document the fact that they were there AND are still here. The 112 Pack’s highlight was the Air Max 1 shoe. I am killing myself that I didn’t camp out in Brooklyn for those. That pair would be even sicker than my AM-1 NL Black Cements that I copped from the ATL DunkxChange.

Clark should have won for his NIKE collabo on the Black Friday Air Force 1’s. These are definitely on some superhero status. People are still buzzing about these shoes. The materials are str8 banana beans. I jacked some pics from HowFresh’s website just to show you how mean these shoes are.

Peep that HowFresh went in to pose these kicks on a DJ rig.

The Black Friday AF-1’s are a monster shoe that deserved to win out over the ?uestlove Air Force 1’s but only time will tell which shoe the sneaker heads love more. ajp

I don’t hardly ever feature Air Jordan products on my page since I don’t buy them any longer. One of the reasons I stopped copping Air Jordans was because of the pricing shenanigans that developed due to the scarcity of the shoe. I shouldn’t be such a hater though since Nike knew they were dealing with instant classics on the day these shoes were released. Good capitalism says that you can fux with the demand when you fux with the supply.

Anyhoo, I thought to myself that Nike would have to be really progressive to bring me back to copping Air Jordans (not that they even need my scrilla). I thought to myself about what it would take for me to become excited about a pair of Air Jordans and then it hit me right in the eyesocket.

AIR.

I reached out to the Twitternation for anyone who could bang out some photoshop .jpgs and I got a bunch of folks that stepped up to shoot their shot. In the end it was our techmeister and videostreaming homey DJ RAYZ that came through with a sick pair of Air Jordan X(10) x Air Max 360 hybrids. How fireworks are these?!? Str8 fire flames for your foot game.

I am calling these joints the AJaX360

Murder Was The Case That They Gave Me…

fossils

How are these fossils not dead yet?!?

The U.S. murder rate spikes for young Black males while gangsta rap CD sales decline.

Even Fisty Scent, who has been the only steady commodity during this decline is losing his luster. The Fisty Scent MTV reality show titled ‘The Money & The Power’ has been shelved indefinitely.

Peep the graph I just made which charts the precipitous decline in gangsta rap music sales and the steady increase in mortality for Black males…

cd sales

The tipping point for rap music, and subsequently the Black male mortality rate was in 2006. That was a pretty tumultuous year for weed carriers and shitty rap albums. Kingdom Come, Idlewild, Like Father Like Son, Bred 2 Die Born 2 Live, The Big Bang, Hard To Kill, Blood Money, King, and Pac’s Life?!? Do I have to fucking continue?

NaS wasn’t just being prescient when he said that ‘Hip-Hop Is Dead’, he was just looking outside of his window at all of the young Black boys that were chopping each other down like sugar cane stalks. If I were some kind of economist, sociologist or even a community activist I might prA’li study the correlation further to see if maybe the t.I.’s were spurring Black youths to kill each other since they obviously weren’t buying CD’s any longer, but I’m busy now on another project called ‘Moving Out Of My Mother’s Basement’.

Maybe one of the freedom fighters on this site will pursue this story further, but I doubt that anyone really gives a fuck. You know, what with the economy still being fucked the fuck up and it being winter and Zwarte Piet not having enough Wii consoles to give out.

The silver lining that I see in all the carnage is that it appears that real thugs are back to doing real things and leaving all the poseurism to the pretty boys and the artistic types.

At the end of the day what does this news herald for 2009?

Skinny jeans killers.

major black

We Major!

SFU chairman from the DMV district Jaislayer told us to fall thru this spot called Major when we were posted up in D.C.

Major is located in the hallowed ‘hood of Georgetown on Wisconsin Avenue. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect when I got to the store but I was immediately overtaken by how much the store reminded me of a sneaker fiends playpen. These dudes have EVERY shoe ever made. Okay, that was an exaggeration but they definitely have at least twice the active stock of any sneaker boutique. These dudes are holding heat. I saw several editions of the Dunk Trainer shoes that I am smitten with as well as hard to find Air Maxes and adidas.

I kicked it with the store managers who were actually familiar with this site and the i.C. movement. I was even comped a Major DC x New Era fitted cap. They called this piece the KRS-3M which is flyboy speak for Kente Reflective System featuring 3M materials. I usually come up on fitted caps that are inspired by my sneaker acquisitions. This will be the first time that I have ever had a fitted inspire me to copp a pair of kicks.

Major isn’t just a sneaker store but an official streetwear brand repping the DMV hardbody. Their logo is clean and professional like something I would expect to see on a Capitals jersey. I wouldn’t be surprised either if they had a fitted to rock out with the latest version of the Washington Caps colorways. I should have asked if they had those Dunk Trainer Hi’s in a size 12. On my next trip to the DMV I won’t be so shy. Major is that officialness.
