The Hero Of The Zeros…
Firmament, in Germany just got themselves a Tier 0 account with Nike. For sneaker fiends deep in the game, finding a store that has a Tier 0 account is like dating the prom queen and hitting it from the back. It’s on some seriously exclusive shit. The first Tier 0 release at Firmament will be the sneakers to go along with the release of the ‘Tech Pack’ of Nike apparel.
The first sneaker to surface was an Air Max 90 in a sable green colorway. You may remember sable green as the green in the Air Max 90 ‘Safari’s’ and the SBTG Dunks. This shoe features some camo type designs on the bumper and the upper, and a toe box made of butter soft premium perforated leather. For those of us who are weary of how quickly the standard AM 90 leather toe box starts to show creasing, the perforated toe box is a big plus. The AM 90 Tech Pack also includes a joint with a brown and purple color scheme, and a kind of dark pin stripe design, and a very similar model with khaki replacing purple on the mudguard and accents. My favorite is the first, but cats who dig purple will definitely wanna look out for the other two.
Adidas is coming out with a vintage snake skin pack. Snake skin has been really popular lately, and Adidas will release a pack of vintage models in various patterns and colors of snake skin. Look out for the Shell Toe, Superstar, and Pro Model to drop soon.
Nike will be releasing a 3M reflective crocodile Air Max 90. The sneaker comes in a pretty simple black/white colorway, but the defining characteristic of these is a black 3M reflective crocodile pattern on the mudguard and upper. Hot!!!
Last but certainly not least is the Visvim G Polke Suede. Visvim is quickly becoming one of my favorite shoe/sneaker designers. I would say it’s my second favorite after Nike, but I don’t even know it’s an apples to apples comparison considering the vast difference between Nike and Visvim, both ideologically, and stylistically. I only own one pair of Visvim’s – the Twonbly, which is essentially a slip-on sneaker with a Clarks Wallaby upper and a sneaker sole, and it is probably my favorite pair of shoes in my collection. Visvim to me means comfort first and foremost, but also a very sophisticated, mature design, with clean silhouettes, subtle colors, and premium materials and construction. Unfortunately Visvim’s are very hard to find stateside, and when you do find them they don’t come cheap, usually retailing at $240 and up. Hearing our cries for more Visvim’s in the states, they have launched their G-Line, which is the US only line. Up until now the G-Line has consisted of more loud and garish themes like brighter colors and louder materials like patent leather – a damming albeit accurate testament to the Japanese view of American tastes. The Visvim G-Polke Suede is a departure from that, and a welcome one.
The G-Polke Suede actually looks very similar to the Twonbly (which is ok with me) with two key differences: It has laces as opposed to being a slip-on, and they’ve added two diagonal crinkle cut white stripes on the outer part of the shoe, taking influence from classic Adidas style, which adds more of a sporty feel to the sneakers. I’m pretty sure Union in NYC will be carrying these, as well as Blends in Cali. The release date is currently unknown, and any info on these would be appreciated, as I want to make sure to lock down my pair.

Good news for all of us MILF lovers… Senior citizens are getting their backs blown out at the same rate as younger folks. It looks like everybody is starting to come around to the fact that nobody gives it up as good as a grandma. Think about it, years of practice can’t be bad. I play first base in my office softball league and my glove is twenty five years old. Every year it get softer and catches balls even better.
With folks living longer and longer thanks to modern pharmaceuticals I think it’s high time to send some of these sexy seniors back into the workforce. Jay-Z was a visionary when he brought some of these septugenarian showstoppers back to work. Hell, I’d go to a strip club that featured senior citizen as dancers. Wrinkly tits would be flapping all around the place like wind socks. There’d be quarts of lubrication on the poles. That is lubrication right? It kind of smells like Ben-Gay.
There is a downside to all of this partying with the sexy grandmas though. Senior citizens pass around wild STD’s just like that ancient rumcake that gets re-gifted for a decade. Just because granny’s sweet stuff is all out of eggs doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t still wear your galoshes. You don’t want to end up putting some Agent Orange on your manhood, because that shit could have been incubating inside that snatch since the free love hippie days during the Vietnam War.
Don’t let that stop you from enjoying yourself though. Sexy grandmas need some loving too. And you should show them some attention. Especially when they get all gussied up to go out to the club.
Shouts to my dudes at ThinkTank Marketing who put me on the list for the Adidas event commemorating the release of the MUHAMMAD ALI ‘Classics’ shoe designs. Just last week I previewed the offering made by Puma in homage of iconic Hip-Hop artists and I shitted on their production all the way. It was a disingenuous campaign by Puma sneakers, and worse still, a lousy co-branding effort with Music TeleVision to attach themselves to Hip-Hop in a place that they didn’t belong to because they never earned it to begin with. MTV tried to ride in on Puma’s ghetto pass and they both got booted from the DP Dot Com sneaker champagne room. Only Holy Grails allowed.
The three stripe brand, Adidas, at least does their homework. Where Puma traded their legacy in athletic footwear to come to the dance with posers, Adidas does an about face and reaches into their rolodex vault of classic artistic icons. I can see why COMBAT JACK fucks with these cats mostly. Adidas kept it real without pandering to, or making a mockery of their subject. The designs featured represented the greatest of all time in a most honorable way.
The first design I peeped was done by a graff artist named CEY.
CEY is a childhood hero of mine because he grew up in Queens, and he used to bomb out of the Union Turnpike layups. CEY, COPE, NE, MIN were all the kings of the Queens Boulevard subways. CEY also designed the first Adidas ads for RUN-DMC. As a matter of fact, CEY still puts in graff work and he invited me to visit the Fun Factory in Long Island City next month when he puts up a new mural. CEY is a classic cool motherfucker and I will never be above copping some fanboy shit for my archives.
The second design that was on display was done by another truly iconic pop artist in American culture who puts even ANDY WARHOL to shame. LeROY NEIMAN has been creating his impressionist influenced paintings for over fifty years. You have seen his paintings everywhere and you may not have even known dudes name.
NEIMAN has painted portraits of ALI previously for magazines and his brush strokes effortlessly capture the heroism and courage of one of America’s true heroes. That is the mark of a great artist when they can transfer the idea of greatness and majesty to their subject matter. I ain’t mad at you one bit Adidas, and your lazy, poser cousins from Puma need to take notes on how shit should be done.
