I’m Still Hungover…

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

There’s a reason they call it Bhangkok and not BhangKUNT. [ll]

People will agree that sequels generally sux ass. Except for The Empire Strikes Back and Futuristic Brunch, of course. Sequels are where filmmakers snooker the audience into sitting around for another few hours to try and relive the nostalgia of the previous classic vehicle.

Hangover 2 is not that sequel. Hangover 2 is better than Hangover, just like a balls out night in Bhangkok is way iller than a night in Vegas. A night in Bhangkok could have you shot, maimed, killed, or worse, it could have you lose your asscheek’s virginity.

All I’ma say is that Hangover 2 might be the summer sleeper classic of 2011. I expected to have a few laughs, but this shit was out of its mind. Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper were hilarious while Zach Galifinakis pwned the movie. Zach Galifinakis is who Jack Black would be if he were really funny.

KanYe’s Officially A Monster…

ye tudda

What is KanYe West if not a magnet for controversy. Pop music’s prolific agent provocateur finally unleashes the video to his monster smash ‘Monster’.

I’m still complaining that the last artist vignette wasn’t Nicki Minaj beating the crap out of a Lil’ Kim look-a-like. That would have been really controversial.

The X-Factor…

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

I always enjoyed the X-Men books because they were posited as the ‘other’ when humanity was considered. They weren’t considered more advanced, but different and even somewhat defective. Mutantkind was something more akin to people with Down’s Syndrome who might could fly or shoot shit from their eyes. They were feared and persecuted by normal humans and strangely enough I could relate to being the ‘other’ my damn self.

I thought the X-Men was a sort of parable for society’s marginalization of the people who were different from the norm. I’m starting to feel like maybe I had it wrong all this time. Could the X-Men just be like most of the science fiction media I have grown up with that removes the colored folks from the futurescape? I’ve been peeping some of the screenshots from the latest X-Men theatrical feature and it looks like Blacks can’t even be mutants now.

Okay, I’m not gonna ruin my enjoyment of these books from childhood by putting my grownup mind’s concerns on these stories. I love anything X-Men and this includes the movie industry retconning my favorite characters to sell some more tickets or add some new members to the audience. At least Magneto retains his bad ass status.

Rap’s Future Is Very Odd…

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

Off all the youth movements that Hip-Hop has pushed out in the new millennium, OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) is prA’li the one which will transcend the constraints of rap music. Mainly because they are comprised of visionary artists who are also distinct personalities. When was the last time a Hip-Hop group had more than a half dozen rappers who could ALL rhyme?

They remind me of the Wu-Tang Clan because they are led by a forcefully determined character. For the Wu it was the RZA, for Odd Future it is Tyler the Creator. Tyler’s debut album ‘Goblin’ is the cement for his generation’s disaffected listeners. It’s not a challenging album musically, but lyrically it represents like a Generation-X Redman meets KanYe West with some Eminem mixed in for shits and giggles.

The ‘X’ in Gen-X is for ecstasy, and Odd Future is their future.

The Heat Is On… Hollywood

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

The Heat’s ‘Big Three’ is some more showtime shit engineered by Pat Riley.

But do they play the physical defense like the Riley era Knicks?

Do they inspire a city by their work ethic or their tennis shoes?

Nope, the Miami Heat are Hollywood.

Just Ask Dontrevius Wenters.
