Clone Wars Is Star Wars Crack…

star wars

The Clone Wars series on Cartoon Network is better than I expected it to be. After the Clone Wars feature film a couple of years ago I slept on this series beinbg developed by Cartoon Network. I wanted it to be bloodier and more ruthless. The series is set in the Star Wars universe in between the timelines of episode II ‘Attack Of The Clones’ and ep. III ‘Revenge Of The Sith’.

As the Separatist vs. Republic war rages on we start to see the chinks in the Republic’a armor. The Jedi Knights are under duress spread far and wide across the universe. Old rivalries are rehashed and the battle lines are drawn. I watched an episode where the Mandalorians were building up their war machine again after several generations of seeking peace, productivity and prosperity. You even get to meet Obi Wan’s girlfriend.

Clone Wars is a fantastic ret-conning of the Star Wars universe that is good television programming for any level of Star Wars fan. I’ve recently been on a clone trooper binge so I am enjoying watching these characters be introduced and placed into their respective roles for the story. I know how the story progresses but watching the details unwind is the best part.

If you are a Star Wars fan I know I don’t have to tell you to watch this show, but if you aren’t totally a fan of the SW storyline you will still enjoy the action and the next generation computer graphics imaging used for the animation.

FOXY BROWZ…

foxy browz

I read an iHipHop article about Foxy Brown and Ron Browz working together in the studio and my mind immediately lit up.

Can you imagine a reality show with crazy ass Fox Boogie and the auto-tuned one hit wonder Ron Browz?

rantwit

These two meatballs would try to start a business. An eyebrow threading salon in Harlem called ‘Foxy Browz’. I think they would have to put some African chicks in there to do braiding as well. Of course, they would have a recording studio in the back.

So where do I go to when I have these moments of unmitigated pop culture creativity? TWitter, natch. This is where I like to go to ruminate on issues of the day.

rantwit

Or whatever shit just pops into my head [ll].

rantwit

But mostly I just talk my shit. To be perfectly 1000 with y’all, TWitter and the loss of my video camera is the reason this blog fell the fux off.

140 characters (spaces included) >>> 600 word drops

Maybe that isn’t entirely the truth, but TWitter is globalized text message catharsis and trust me that you will want to be on TWitter when the Oscars are awarded. Watching an awards show while logged on to TWitter is like sprinkling your Newport 100 with cocaine. That shit turns into a 1000000millie.

rantwit

If you tried to follow me on TWitter using the sidebar on this site you would have wound up at my previous TWit ID. I change them joints like my underwear. Okay, I change my drawls more often, but I keep it moving on TWitter. You can find me now @Rant_Sum, but I am already preparing my latest TWit ID – @Google_Blax. I’m saving that shit tho’ for the return of the Blax Headroom show.

Just know that I keep my priorities posted.

SEPARATED @ BIRTH: Frankensteinery…

frankensteinery

Editor’s note: This drop was inspired by the Tony Grand$ x getthesenets comments in the Magic Bird brokeback basketball thread. [ll] as always.

Kevin McHale is often referred to as the Frankenstein monster.

His game was as ugly as his mug too.

But for my recollection, the Chief was a better choice.

frankensteinery

Fux it all.

These dudes are the Frankenstein Bros.

Why hasn’t this been made into a television series?

Magic & Bird: Love & Basketba[ll]…

birdmagic

Shouts to my dude A.King from PNC Radio who put me on to this documentary screening at my local watering hole. SODA Bar on Vanderbilt Avenue was hosting the screening. HBO pictures produced this tight little doc about the relationship that two of basketball’s supreme competitors now share together. Magic & Bird is all about the obstacles that these two men had between them when they were pretty much mirror images in their love for the game of basketball and how hard they were willing to work to become winners.

What made the film so compelling is that you got to see a side of Larry Bird that made me wonder why I h8’d dude so much (other than the fact that he was a Celtic). Larry Bird grew up wild poor. Hardbody poor. Magic’s family wasn’t wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, but Magic’s dad didn’t end up merc’king himself like Bird’s dad did. Larry Bird was obsessed with Magic [ll]. With his stats and his achievements. Bird used Magic to propel himself faster and harder [ll]. Magic only wanted a hug from Bird. This shit was more than a bromance, these two wanted to mouf kiss each other.

At one point in the film while Magic was being interviewed he broke down into tears recalling the moment that Larry Bird called him up to ask how he was doing after Magic had publicly disclosed that he was HIV+. For Larry Bird, he secretly viewed Magic as one of his siblings that he constantly fought with but cherished dearly. This fuxing documentary almost made me get a piece of dust in my eye like that gotdamn Antwon Fisher bullshit. I pounded on my chest tho’ and the dust went away. Still and all, this was an incredibly revealing film for these larger than life NBA characters.

The Association needed Magic and Bird and the level of competition that they brought to the league. Magic and Bird needed one another for the challenge of competing and then later on the camaraderie. If you are a fan of the Association then you need this documentary to show you how these two players combined to save professional basketball. Bryant Gumbel’s commentary in this film was heeelarious. The filmmaker’s research and the archival footage used was vainglorious. From the Sopranos, to The Wire, up to Curb Your Enthusiasm, Home Box Office stays winning. Make sure you DVR this movie so you can watch it on repeat.

BattleStar Got Another One…

caprica

I finally tuned in to the new BSG series ‘Caprica’ and it didn’t disappoint. BattleStar Galactica was the best program on television for its entire run and the only thing that disappointed me was how that shit ended. Caprica is starting off as good as BSG. I’m gonna let a few more episodes fill up Chocolate Snowflake’s DVR and we are gonna have a party at the crib and order Italian food and drink wine while we watch episodes back to back to back marathon style.

None of y’all are invited tho’ because we will be naked.
