We Run This Dystopia…

rocboys

In the future what will the people riot for? Good music? Healthy food?

Nah, it’ll be women.

If China is any indicator of the shit we will be into 100 years from now, and I believe they are because they had their own industrial revolution in 1 A.D., we will be rioting in the streets for access to women. That is the message I take from the new Jay-Z music video for the single ‘We Run This Town’.

As far as futuristic post-urban dystopias are concerned I have to give props to 2Pac’s ‘California Love‘ over the ‘Run This Town’ video and you know that I don’t even fux with 2Pac like that. Firstly, 2Pac had broads in his video while Jay-Z’s only has shirtless boys holding flaming sticks [ll]. Forget the fact that Jay-Z’s lyrics say that “We got a banquette full of broads, they got a table full of fellas”.

No sir, you have a video full of dudes.

A few folks on the TWitter have made a correlation between the ‘Run This Town’ and ‘California Love’ videos, and the mother(literally) of all future apocalyptic scenes – Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome will always be the G.O.A.T. Thanks to TINA TURNER aka Auntie EnTity(emphasis on the titty – see what I just did?). Maybe when RIHANNA turns 50yrs old and she is still as beatable (no Chris Brown) as TINA was I might have to reconsider.

tina - rihanna

From fishsticks to flaming sticks, KanYe West and Jay-Z have this music video shit onSmash(yeah, I did that).

You can’t deny that these are the dudes that you want to be in the future.

Mainly because they are the only ones who have access to the sweet vajj.

DP.COM MANNY WATCH…

mannywood

I thought the Dodgers would run away with the NL West once MANNY RAMIREZ returned from his MLB suspension for trying to acquire mantits. Even though they set the pace for the entire league with their first half start, the second half hasn’t been the case for the Blue crew. While the Dodgers still have the best record in the West division they are close to losing that perch for overall record to the Phillies and or possible the Cards.

What has hurt the Dodgers has been their lack of consistent pitching. When you don’t have a rotation with any big name starters you hope that your mid level talent gets warm late in the season. These Dodger pitchers were hot early and that helped L.A. overcome the loss of their superstar leftfielder but now it seems like the gas is running out of the tank. I just hope the acquisition of VICENTE PADILLA can help the Dodgers out.

MANNY hasn’t been totally MANNY either since his return from the suspension. Yeah, it’s unrealistic to expect him to post the same numbers he did last season when he first came to L.A. and yes, he is still an above .300 hitter, the Dodgers need his .400 avg. bat and his clutch RBI production if they hope to honestly contend with Philadelphia and St. Louis for the NL World Series berth. I’m tuned in hardbody to the MLB from this point forward.

Marvel Comics Manga Is Fantastic…

My favorite department store, Marshall’s, had some Fantastic 4 cartoons in their $5 DVD bin. I normally won’t even spend that amount of money on DVD’s now that pretty much everything is on the web but I wanted to have something to watch while I work on my video projects.

Something for a little diversion, some background noise*, maybe even some inspiration.

*That wasn’t pr0n

I was pleasantly surprised with the manga-influenced series. Yeah, it’s mostly for the kids and the canon is somewhat revised but that isn’a always a bad thing. The updated Dr. Doom is a little more futuristic and less teh ghey. At least he doesn’t have that man-skirt in this series.

Another part of the canon upgrade is that Alicia Masters, the blind woman dating Ben Grimm is now a Black woman. That was cool with me. Mainstream comicbook vehicles could always use more heroic Black characters.

The series also features appearances from other sundry Marvel hero icons like Ant-Man and Iron Man. The supervillains are well represented also – Doom, Mole Man and Annihilus to name a few.

I’m definitely fuxing with this series.

The X-Men: Evolutions cartoons, not so much.

The City That Never Sleeps…

ny shitty

I am h8’ing NYC so much right now. It seems that every night there are several events that I really want to fux with but I can’t be in several places at once. I wish BILL GATES would hurry up with that human cloning project.

Last night had an obama with Patron shots and tons of TWitterati. There was another obama where Just Blaze was deejaying. My homeys Heems and Vik a.k.a Das Racist also had a show at the Bowery Ballroom. Das Racist is blowing up on the low. I fux with those dudes hardbody.

Back on the planet of Brooklyn, Prospect Park’s bandshell, which will be hosting Big Daddy Kane this Saturday was screening my generation’s ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ which is Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’. I don’t think that film has screened in NYC for the last 10 years and I haven’t been there to sing along. ‘Purple Rain’ is what I call Blackaoke.

But the real karaoke jumpoff was going down in Coney Island. HALL & OATES was doing a concert for the free seaside summer series that the Brooklyn beep MARTY MARKOWITZ hosts annually. This was going to be the first time I had seen these dudes perform live. HALL & OATES blue-eyed soul is definitely part of the soundtrack of my life. I bought the ‘Private Eyes’ album from The Wiz with my paper route paper back when I was in junior high.

I’m glad I found some time to spend with Chocolate Snowflake. She is the most patient and generous woman on these internets. I see that some of my steez has rubbed off on her too. She enterprised us some seats in the wristband VIP area. The show was a beautiful night under the stars in Coney Island. The full moon added that perfect romantic element. HALL & OATES ran through a litany of their hits and didn’t disappoint the crowd of thousands. It’s nights like this I wish would last forever.

DARRYL HALL still had the big hair and diva tendencies while JOHN OATES kindly played the sidekick role as always. I was kind of sad that JOHN shaved off the moustache entirely. These old dudes still rock though and their band was getting it in. HALL & OATES had the nerve to make me suffer though a second encore to get some of my favorite hits like ‘You Make My Dreams’ and ‘No Can Do’. I wasn’t going home without hearing those jams better still, I wasn’t going to let them go home.

Damn you New York City and your free concerts and cultural events.

I’m sure I will see some of you internets in Brooklyn on Saturday.

Until then…

Red Carpet Diaries…

I stood on the red carpet last night for RIK CORDERO’s new film ‘Inside A Change‘.

RIK continues to open lanes up for all of us ‘little camera’ directors.

The premiere was down the block from the Dallas BBQ on 23rd Street. While I was on my way to the Ghost + Red/Meth show I ran into B.Dot from RapRadar. B was like, “What’s good with your boy?” I told him it wasn’t no stab at their movement and B was like, “If I called some shit Nah Wrong or Dallas Pencil would that be 100?” B was right that would be wack, but RapGaydar isn’t gonna go pop. RapRadar is def safe from that angle.

In my mind the biggest problem for RapRadar was that government weather tracking site run by the Center for Atmospheric Research that always appeared at the top of the Google search. Now that ELLIOTT WILSON’s RapRadar has a higher Google rank than the O.G. RAP radar I can only see sunny skies in their forecast.
