The Future Of The Rappy Musics…

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

Sometimes it feels funny to me when I see rap music’s future is to be controlled by non-Blacks, but then I understand that in order to unlock the future the keys must be passed onward.

That is how I felt from the first time I watched a Das Racist music video. This wasn’t about being ‘joke’ rap to me. Das Racist was free to be D.R. at least in their own minds and I dig that.

Das Racist Chicken and Meat video along with an Oprah Winfrey promotion for FREE chicken had me ranting in the streets.

Chicken done did the white folks wrong.

Rafi Kam plugged me to a D.R. show in L.E.S. the same week my young homey RobACK from the midwest made his way to the big city.

We caught the D.R. show and blew trees right on the Orchard Street sidewalk

After the D.R. show I just used to vibe off their earlier shit. I told Rafi Kam, word to Blu Cheez that I wanted to make a fanboy video to the joint ‘Fake Patois’.

It came to me one night in a blinding fury. I worked all night just to make sure I rolled it out immediately.

I got two more D.R. jernts just for how they shit makes me feel.

LAURENOVICH!!!

Friday, June 29th, 2012

It was all a dream just a few months ago when Meyhem Lauren told me that the studio sessions he had while at the South by South West festival were going to end up being an album. The result of all that hard work is the ‘Respect The Fly Shit’ project. Meyhem joins up with beatmakers Tommy Mas and Harry Fraud along with the usual suspects like Kaiser Soze aka Action Bronson, AG the Coroner, Himanshu from Das Racist, Roc Marciano, Sean Price, Despot, and Riff Raff.

The album sin’t a stab at boom-bap sounds from the mid 1990s as you may have expected. Harry Fraud and Tommy Mas are two of the more eclectic young producers who still fux with the soul samples and scratchy drum kicks but they don’t beat you over the head with NYC’s previous sound. I appreciate Tommy Mas from the Dr. Lechter album. Harry Fraud is well known in rap ciphers because of his Rick Ross and French Montana placements. Neither producer gets caught reaching for a beat meme thread on this project

Forget about all that high-concept rap bullshit and just put your headphones on and rock out. That was the theme for RTFS so I just let the music play out and pleasured myself [ll]. Don’t look surprised if I make a fanboy video for every track on this album. I’ve got a whole lot of action figures.

You can stream ‘Respect The Fly Shit‘ and download for yourself.

Outfit Architecture…

I’ve been sitting on these RLX I.T.’s for a minute, mad thirsty to show y’all the entire ‘Fit but the universe hasn’t been fuxing with hardbody the last few weeks. I had an eBay auction ending this afternoon and I missed out on the snipe.

I need to win these shoes right here…

These are called the LeBron 9 ‘China’ edition. I slept when they first dropped because I wasn’t really fuxing with LeBron shoes at the time. Now that I need them I have to pay reseller rape prices.

These resellers gonna fux around and make it to where I find something else to use as my footings to this ‘Fit I’m building. RLX spring collection ain’t been nuthin’ to fux with. Modern Explorer was official, but this Yosemite/Whitewater series is str8 FIYAHVERKX!

I str8 up stalked the shit out of that sweater every week at Bloomingdales until the price went from $495 to $160. The hoodie went from $170 to $40. The cargo sweatpants were $50 and the scarf was $20.

The Miami Marlins hat was $20 from the good people at Poleberg.

The sweater is on some heirloom shit to me. The knitwork is intricately detailed with native American designs and sewn-in elbow padding. Just Blaze prA’Li got this in his archives.

The cargo sweatpants were another I.T. I had to play close since Bloomie’s on Lexington Ave only had one pair in XXL. I can’t believe that heads were sleeping on these. I lucked up catching the last orange scarf on clearance.

Since I won’t be popping tags on this ‘Fit until the fall I’m hoping to have my footings situation shored up by then. If not the LeBron 9 ‘China’ then something else equally official with swag.

It went down so crazy in Prospect Park on Saturday nite. Ghostface Killah was the headliner for the Lyricist Lounge 20th Anniversary show. Combat Jack came thru as well as Meyhem Lauren and the entire Lo-Life crew.

DallasPenn.com stays in these streets for your entertainment. You are welcome.
