This might be my favorite Combat Jack Show of all time. Okay, the Redman ep is still my favorite since I smoked kush with the god, but this work here with Wyclef rivals that since a few nights later I sat in the studio with ‘Clef and listened to parts of his next project.

Wyclef inspires me because he has never abandoned his roots no matter where his journey has taken him. He remained a conduit for people from the ghetto to have their voices heard, and not in a pandering, victimized POV, but a resilient, triumphant yell. Don’t say shit to me about Yele unless you know what it takes to quell the violence in Haiti long enough to let people come inside of that country to administer relief.

Wyclef will eventually get his due from the people he wants it from the most. Us. I’m already saluting this general, as should you. YELE >>> Y.O.L.O.

REEL TALK w/ GENERAL STEELE…

Smif n Wessun - Dah Shinin cover

When I initially plotted this interview with Steele from Smif-N-Wessun it was to kick shit about Timberland boots and for how long he had been a collector of the brand. Our conversations quickly found all kinds of other places of relativity, and relevance, like the culture of consumption, the pain and joy of making music and society at large.

Steele is one of the people the great spirits have entrusted with carrying culture from one generation to the next. That requires a perspective to contemplate your role in the chain of life. You have to be humble even when you understand how great your mission is. You have to be ready to sacrifice yourself for your destiny.

These reels are a total of a half an hour. The same amount of time you might use up watching a sitcom. I’d respectfully request you give that same part of your attention to an artist who has twenty years of work behind him and even more than that in front of him. All because of one thing… His reverence for the WORD. First came the word which put everything in being.

hark

When are the Doppelgangaz gonna let me direct a video? The answer would be Nevuary. LOL. They doing their thing on they own and the world is finally catching up. I had a latepass my damn self when it came to the DPGZ.

Their latest project will be titled ‘Hark’ and it’s dropping in two weeks. Maybe I’ll get an exclusive interview with them beforehand. Stay tuned Internets. In the meantime and in between time here’s a new video for your eyeholes.

Internets! Be careful what you pray for because God may give it to you.

I begged Combat Jack to add a video element to the show he was recording. Today is THAT future in full force.

Today the Combat Jack television show starts taping in Bushwick Brooklyn. This is my outfit architecture for the show. Navajo lined cardigan with leather elbow patches ($75) and the navajo scarf ($30) from Polo.com thanks to T-Bag’s link.

Sean Price killed me one day saying I wore ‘Big Daddy’ jeans. I may have burned every pair of carpenter jeans I owned that very night.

Strictly 501 button fly classics from here on.

Timberland’s 25th anniversary edition Iditarob superboots on deck.

One word… UnFUXwittable.

Shake To This…

here

The Harlem Shake has been one of the hottest internets memes over the last few years and while I generally avoid internets memes if there aren’t kittens directly featured in them I have enjoyed some of the various renditions based on this electronic dance music song called ‘Harlem Shake‘.

The song isn’t about the actual Harlem Shake dance or else it would have never become a meme. The actual Harlem Shake is to dance what John Coltrane was to jazz. The dance is both improvised and wholly formal. These Harlem Shake videos are all improvisation. That is why they are so funny.

My argument is that we shouldn’t get caught up in the formality of the actual Harlem Shake dance. Let white folks have their fun with it. This way we can have our fun too. The little kids from Harlem responsible for creating the Harlem Shake will have to create something else if they can.
