unicorn

Part of the allure of the lifestyle to most of us collectors is the fact that Polo Ralph Lauren will distribute certain I.T.s to a certain region or country and the superior collectors will establish a chain that allows them contact with these faraway places. This way you can bust the skullcaps of your local circle with an I.T. they didn’t even know existed.

Make sure to visit my folks at Vintage Gear Addicts for their lifestyle drops.

One of the pieces that has attained mythical status in the lifestyle culture is the 5-7 patch longbill 92 Racing cap. The debate rages on how many patches this cap actually holds. The truth is that it may very well be a custom joint from the rip. The most enlightened lifestylers have been customizing their pieces with patches from their discarded schmedium I.T.s.

This is why I love rocking Polo Ralph Lauren pieces. The culture of collectors I fux with have devised our own narrative of the lifestyle all the while understanding that Ralph Lauren’s gentility is just as made up as our own. Actually, our narrative is better because we don’t ever think we might pass for Anglo-Saxon Europeans and we are cool with that. For me, it’s all about the colorway and my own #swag.

dare piece

The Combat Jack Show was another classic webcast on Wednesday night. Microphone issues as usual. Uninvited guests and never a topic too taboo for the discussion. Shouts to Torae and Nitty Scott for kicking it with us for a few minutes.

Sasha Jenkins and CHINO BYI rounded out the show’s lineup. Two words… Class. Sick.

I’m getting into all kinds of mess this weekend so hold onto this excellent Combat Jack Show episode from the week prior featuring Jean Grae and SlaughterHouse (and more specifically Joell Ortiz) co-manager Mike Herard.

So much of music today is seen the same minute its heard. So with that in mind DuckDown gives you the visual treatment for Smif N Wessun featuring Styles P and Sean Price titled ‘That’s Hard’.

I mean, with these four(4) individuals on a track could it be anything but hardbody?

Copp this for your earholes: Smif N Wessun x Pete Rock = Monumetal

Batman: Odyssey = WTF?!?

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

I feel like I always have to post a disclaimer up when we are discussing some serious fanboy shit. Just so that no one reading this years after it was written thinks I have considered turning in my fanboy ID card.

Neal Adams for my money is the greatest comicbook artist of all time. John Byrne is a close second when it comes to penciling and inking his own shit, but that is why the edge goes to Adams because he doesn’t over-embellish his lines like Byrne does. Anyhoo…

I’ve been sleeping on this recent Neal Adams iteration of Batman titled Odyssey. It’s a funky little series which feels slightly derivative of Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns classic. The writing in the books has Batman doing a lot of nifty talking thru narration as he throttles crooks. Mainly tho’ this series has Batman being a totally bonkers sociopath.

I haven’t been able to figure out the series yet but I’m intrigued to see where Adams is going to take the characters. Batman’s relationship with Alfred as well as the Joker is completely turned on its head where we see batman getting into yelling matches with Alfred and later he is driving around Gotham with the Joker talking to him like a confidant.

Batman’s relationship with Robin and Lieutenant Gordon is also strained in this series which makes me wonder if that might have been the rule of thumb for this series; describe Batman as this pained individual who has more in common with the Joker than with the rest of humanity. As long as Adams stays on the pencils I will keep reading the book.

Big up to Rule4080.com everytime

The Random Axe show in Brooklyn’s venerable performance space SouthPaw was a classic vibe. Shouts to Meka from 2DopeBoyz for opening up the space with a dope set.

DJ Evil Dee brought that veteran deejay skill to the stage next. I stayed yelling out to the interconnected networks that they all should have worn their backpacks.

Skyzoo lit up the stage with what will be the future of the underground genre.

Black Moon’s set was another reminder of why Duck Down Records remains a staple in Hip-Hop’s history. Black Moon’s songs are the definition of backpack rap.

Smif-N-Wessun x Heltah Skeltah x Boot Camp Clik is the army.

Random Axe is backpack rap when you are strapped with a gat.

Luckily no one was shot at the show and fun time was had by all.
