NYC FLASHING LIGHTS WEEKEND RECAP…

September 16th, 2007

flashing lights

Let the video posted above be a cautionary tale to you as I recount the last 36 hours in detail…

Where do I begin? First off… iLose. I left my wallet on a commuter train. Sucks to be me right now. I can only imagine how all my legitimate identification is being misappropriated.

When I got to the event on Friday evening there was some fugazi character at the door hating on the iNTERNETS CELEBRITIES so we didn’t get inside. How ironic would it have been for me to be swilling free booze on Puma x Yo! MTV RAPS tab after I told them to kiss my ass? Instead the i.C. sidewalk pimped with all the folks stranded outside until we were the only ones left that didn’t get in.

Then the i.C.’s followed the flashing lights to the ‘Feast of San Gennaro’. I think San Gennaro is the patron saint of the zeppole truck. What is banana head about NYC is that every corner you turn on there is something else provacative and exciting going on.

The following videos are dark not because of he content, but because I don’t know how to manage the CyberShot camera. Let’s look at how too many nights in New York City end up… With someone laid the fuck out on the sidewalk.

I fell through an old NYC watering hole hoping to make amends for my poor showing at the Puma sneakers event. Down The Hatch was the Friday after work popoff for a year or two, but not so much anymore. Drunk fratboys have taken over the pool table and the bartenders refused to serve me by literally ignoring me at the counter. WTF is this about?

This is a brand new day in NYC when I’m treated like the shit beneath someone’s shoe, but there it was for me to digest. I left the bar without exchanging any words with any of the bartenders. I didn’t need another drink anyhoo. My cup already runneth over at GABEROCKKA’s birthday party (more on that later).

I continued to walk the streets and resumed my sidewalk pimping. Not sure what I would find when I turned the next corner and there was a gang of drunk Staten Islanders at the corner of Sixth and West 4th. Not too much sidewalk pimping here.

And there’s some more of that nonsense…

When your night ends with you on the courtesy couch of an FDNY ambulance you did not finish off Hip-Hop. You overdosed somewhere along the line. I think I have to rewind my story so that you can see how I came to stumble around Metropolis at four in the morning…

SOUL MUSIC DANCE CLASSIC DNA…

September 16th, 2007

dna

Shouts to the DP Dot Commenter ALEX who put us up on the song that Daft Punk sampled/covered/stole to frame their dance classic ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’. Turns out the song ‘Cola Bottle Baby’ by 70’s funkateer EDWIN BIRDSONG is a dance classic in it’s own right so the Daft Punk kids couldn’t miss. I wonder if they had any problems clearing the rights to basically steal someone’s song outright or did they get taxed like rappers do when they pay for samples?

If KanYE’s hit song ‘Stronger’ brings a check to BIRDSONG then I suppose everything is everything in the game.

KANYE WEST – ‘Stronger’

DAFT PUNK – ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’

EDWIN BIRDSONG – ‘Cola Bottle Baby’

Another DP Dot Com shout goes out to DJ SPINNA for providing us with the EDWIN BIRDSONG track so we could review it at the site. SPINNA also hit us off with some STEVIE WONDER on the talkbox via the Music Of My Mind album. You already know that I fucks with SPINNA parties like the 80’s Flavors and the Soul Slam series. CAPTAIN BILLY SUNDAY’s PIRATE RADIO PODCAST

DaftPunk

When ‘YE TUDDA sampled Daft Punk for his song ‘Stronger’ everyone lost their mind and said that rap music was moving in the wrong direction. It was the apocalypse for Hip-Hop. Heaven would come crashing down now that electronic dance music was being used to make rap records. Hello! Hip-Hop’s origins ARE the sampling of dance music. Plus these French niggas from Daft Punk got a little soul with their shit. Peep game…

DAFT PUNK – ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’

When I listen to some cats rip it with dance music and that talk box vocoder shit I think of my man ROGER TROUTMAN and the band that he formed with his brothers called ZAPP. Now who is gonna tell me that dance music isn’t totally part of the DNA of rap music? Respect the architects.

ROGER TROUTMAN & ZAPP – ‘Dancefloor’

ROGER TROUTMAN & ZAPP – ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’

ROGER TROUTMAN & ZAPP – ‘Cutie Pie’

ROGER TROUTMAN & ZAPP – ‘Do Wa Ditty’

ROGER TROUTMAN & ZAPP – ‘Computer Love’

DP Dot Com Super Heroine Series: WONDER WOMAN

September 14th, 2007

ww106

True story is that even if there weren’t that many officially Black superheroines there were those ladies that I knew had some Black blood in them. Take my girl Wonder Woman for instance. Who do you think laid down with Hippolyte to birth all them broads? You know it was a deadbeat dad and that’s why Hippolyte moved away and got her own spot.

Bigger than all of that did y’all know that Diana had a jig twin sister? Hell yeah! How crazy is that shit? I always thought that this chick Nu’Bia was a Wonder Woman nemesis, but it turns out that she was her twin sister that they bounced from Paradise Island because she showed the features of the father. Remember that story where the couple wanted to trade in their colored baby for a lighter one? The same shit happened in the comics too.

Diana’s sister Nu’Bia was cast away and left for dead on the the craggy rocks near the sea. Hades heard the girl crying and picked her up. This is why when Nu’Bia came back to Paradise Island she ended up kicking Wonder Woman’s ass. She was like, “Bitch, you ain’t the boss of me!”

This is my point though. You could tell that Wonder Woman was part Black just for all the sass that she had with her shit. She was into tying motherfucker’s up and making them submit to her. Sounds kind’a freaky if you ask me, and to quote my homey LARRY BLACKMON, “I like it”.

So many comic characters are drawn and written from the perspective’s of white dudes who never left their parent’s basements or interacted with normal people. They project their fantasies of women into these characters. I’m not saying that is bad or wrong, but it’s obviously from the vantage point of someone who doesn’t understand the ultimate strength of a woman.

Whatever woman made the journey to America with her hands and feet chained together whilst she sat in darkness for three straight months is a Wonder Woman. You all already know this, but I am going to show this. Black women are the prototypes.
