fab 5

The Fab 5 freshmen from the University of Michigan Wolverines forever altered the landscape of college basketball without even winning a national championship. Their impact was that great.

Not only did this group impact the way we view college athletics as a commercial enterprise but the scandals that have arisen from the recruitment of these players still hangs over Michigan’s basketball program.

On Sunday March 13th, ESPN Films will premiere a documentary about these five teammates and the story about their time as Wolverines. The doc is definitely going to be personal and real because it is being exec produced by Jalen Rose, one of the members of the Fab 5. Make sure you tune into ESPN for this special presentation.

As the Knickerbocker bandwagon starts to fill up I was thinking about putting Dontrevius Wenters back on the streets to ask Knick fans what they think the final piece of the championship puzzle might be? Point guard? Rebounding power forward?

Nahh, I think it’s the game that Dontrevius brings to the table. Professional gatorade mixer.

NYC Says Hello To ‘Melo…

Calm down kids…

You can understand in the land of unmitigated hype how the trade that brings Carmelo Anthony to MSG also brings some unchecked expectations. We are really gonna need a center or a bonafide big man on the block grabbing boards. Amar’e Stoudemire fouled out in the fourth quarter with four only rebounds.

If the Knicks were a rebound by committee team like the Riley/Van Gundy era we might be able to really make some noise in the watered down Eastern Conference. Since only Boston and Miami actually believe in themselves these Knicks might could sneak into the divisional round of the tourney, but somebody other than the guards better start grabbing boards.

But for tonight, the atmosphere was off the chain. I found myself lurking around the garden to see if I could catch something for the second half. No dice on a ducat. The Association’s buzz right now is on a trillion. The trade of Deron Williams to the Nets nearly stole the thunder from ‘Melo’s debut.

‘Melo def lived up to the hype by scoring 27 points even if it took him an Iverson-ish 25 attempts. I’ll give him a pass on the poor field goal percentage since he also secured 10 rebounds during his time on the floor. I’m starting to see the vision that Donnie Walsh, the Knicks general manager, was formulating this past summer The Knicks are almost there. All they need is a little Dontrevius on the sideline.

NYKnicks: Western Conference Contenders…

The Knicks are looking like a traditional Western Conference team. Plenty of scorers and no defenders or rebounders. I welcome Carmelo Anthony to MSG, but I’m leery to anoint the Knicks as ‘chip contenders for the Eastern conference. We still need too many key players for the team defense to halt a squad like the Celtics or the Magic.

It is nice to see the Knicks building a team with bonafide parts tho’. I couldn’t score a scalped ticket earlier this season so I know getting into the Garden now is a wrizzap. Oh well, since the Knicks are owned by Cablevision I just better make sure I keep my cable bill current. Let’s go Knicks.
