General Motor’s C.E.O. = A Junkyard Dog…

big 3

General Motors chief executive RICK WAGONER has been forced to fall on his own sword in order for G.M. to receive an extra $17billion in welfare benefits from the government.

General Motors has plans to sever 50,000 jobs in order to make their company competitive again. I wonder if G.M. plans on rolling out a car to compete with the TaTa shitbox?

American car companies should be getting bailouts from Exxon and Amoco since they have made vehicles that have only benefited those companies and not the American consumer.

shopaholic

Researchers have determined that women are vulnerable to fits of impulse shopping when their Aunt Rose is coming ot town.

I wonder what causes men to over-consume?

I think in both cases it is the result of the buffeting of messages regarding consumption that our minds receive. Constant, non-stop, round the clock provocations to consume despite the cost are what fills our brains.

I haven’t seen the above movie yet, but I did read the book and I found it totally enjoyable. The main character has to examine herself and defend her consumption at every turn. All she manages to do is go deeper into debt.

If we weren’t in a debt so large would we be able to consider ourselves so rich?

Twitter Gets You Fired…

twiiter trumps

Digital social networks are still somewhat of a mystery to the world at large. Some folks in my old neighborhood have been signing up to a Ning site which connects all the folks that grew up in Corona Queens next to Shea Stadium. I have been a little leery to join in the fun since these are cats that NEVER used computers before. They weren’t even MySpace users. So that lets you know how far behind these folks are.

The current darling of digital social networking is Twitter. It’s so popular that FaceBook redesigned their pages to imitate the Twitter profiles. Twitter is what the internets were created for. Experts speak freely with people that are passionate about those same subjects. There are a few skirmishes but the discourse is generally positive, or at least it is congenial. The mainstream media’s response to twitter has been to provoke fear in the free exchange of ideas.

Twitter gets you fired in 140 characters or less

No one gets fired for the shit they do on a computer*.

* provided you aren’t doing any kiddie pr0n bullshit

People get fired for the shit they do OFF the computer.

sexy maid

MSN.com just confirmed what most of already knew…

That prostitution is essentially recession proof.

After the nuclear holocaust the only thing that will remain will be the cockroaches. And the hooker cockroaches.

The only bad thing about the recession is the aspect that hookers have to turn more tricks to come up on the same number of stacks. So instead of a JULIA ROBERTS coming up on a RICHARD GERE to help her get out of the game she ends up with a GARY BUSEY, then a MICKEY ROURKE, then a WESLEY SNIPES, she hooks up with an ANNE HECHE, but then she claims it was her one and only time and she didn’t even like it.

If money were the only thing that mattered I suppose we would all be prostitutes of some sort.

The War On The Poor Continues…

lovelle mixon

I’m not going to co-sign or explain away LOVELLE MIXON’s deadly actions this past weekend. I can’t acquit him of the reprehensible act of killing people because he was afraid of returning to prison. However, MIXON’s fate was struck many years before this incident. Before he was even sentenced to prison the first time he was already placed on this path. We are lucky that MIXON had only killed these four people.

More people will die though. More criminals like LOVELLE MIXON. More police officers like the four this past weekend. And even more innocent victims like OSCAR GRANT. This is America’s war on poor people and we have a whole lot more poor folks to expend so I suggest all you mourners visit the botanica and buy the extra big candles because the shit hasn’t even touched the fan.

What no one will discuss though is the high rate of recidivism that American ex-convicts experience. The highest rate of all developed countries.

* chants We’re number #1!*

No, not really a reason for celebration. The prison industrial complex is keeping the maid in ‘Made In America’. The only place that the social and technical skills learned in prison are valuable is regrettably, in prison. Now what if prison labor was the only thing that could save the United States economy?
