CMJ 2012: RAP DEGENERATES HOMECOMING…

Monday, October 22nd, 2012

Mass Appeal’s CMJ 2012 showcase was prA’Li the only rap show I NEEDED to attend this year. Everyone whom I fux with and wants to fux with was up in that piece.

Roc Marciano, Alchemist, Action Bronson, Meyhem Lauren, Timeless Truth, Mr. MFN eXquire… Listen, EVERYBODY was there!

The shit felt like a homecoming for all degenerate fans of rap music. The people whom rap music taught how to do the soulclap and then subsequently gave them the clap and various other STD’s. Here we all were, still loving this beautiful whore called rap music. Still try’na kiss her on the mouf.

I hope you live as long as I have Internets. Long enough to confuse music festivals with one another. A3C or Jack The Rapper? College Music Journal or New Music Seminar? Spoonie G or Rakim? Rakim or NaS. NaS or Roc Marciano. It. Does. Not. Stop.

Ryu Black’s Perfect Heaven…

Monday, October 22nd, 2012

I ran into the homey MeccaGodzilla at the Mass Appeal CMJ shindig and he blessed me with a copy of his concept album ‘Perfect Heaven’ where he assumes the name Ryu Black. The artwork on the project was done by Ron Wimberly whose graphic novel ‘Prince Of Cats’ is on my official graphic novel list.

‘Perfect Heaven’ is the story of a traveling warrior looking to make alliances and fight injustices wherever he encounters it. Ryu Black is the protagonist of this tale.

“Metsu Ansatsuken [ 暗 殺 拳 ]” is the 1st ever video from RYU BLACK. The Long Island, NY Producer/MC, also known as MeccaGodZilla, completed a successful Kickstarter campaign to create the “Hip Hopera” style album titled “PERFECT 天” the RYU BLACK Musical. Filmed entirely in Japan by Tokyo skateboarder/street brand model Teddy Wilkins, Metsu Ansatsuken is a tribute to the 20th anniversary of the arcade smash hit StreetFighter II.”

Coming In Ya’ Earholes…

Here’s some classic shit for all the dP fans out there. Before the Combat Jack Show there was a vanity project I started called The Internets Show. It was a podcast that was raw and unrehearsed. Listening to this episode makes me understand why the Combat Jack Show is so powerful. The power of personalities bouncing ideas from one another in real time is the right formula I was missing.

Still, there is an evolution of consciousness on the Combat Jack Show which can be traced to these early podcasts I crafted. Come along for the journey with me Internets. It. Does. Not. Stop.

The Internets In Real Life…

Sunday, October 21st, 2012

The Combat Jack Show traveled to Atlanta to tape the podcast live and direct during the A3C (All 3 Coasts) festival. DJ Drama came thru and discussed his legacy thru mixtapes and music, then Killer Mike blessed the show with knowledge and passion for keeping Hip-Hop as an element of progression.

I cobbled together a few clips from the weekend for this video. Salutes to all the A3C panelists, performers and professionals who make this event the ONLY Hip-Hop festival to fux with.
