roots

Why haven’t you been to the Roots crew Jam Sessions @ Highline Ballroom yet?

Is it geography? Are you too far away from NYC? I just linked with some kids from Temple U. that made the trip to NYC just to see the show.

Is it topography? Are you one of these NYC residents who doesn’t cross bridges or go downtown after 11pm?

What is YOUR problem?

Whatever your pathology is you need to get your mind right and come to see the legendary perform at the $10 bill show. There ain’t nothing left in this city to get you this high for this cheap. The Jam Sessions have featured some of rap and rock’s best performers along with some of the faces that will be the future of music.

Plus, you get the Roots crew going in hard for over two hours of non-stop body rocking, booty shaking, free your mind musical madness. You won’t be able to get this deal forever. When these shows at the Highline Ballroom are over who knows what the schedule of the band will become. You need to get up on it doggoneit.

On Tuesday night I stopped by my old barber’s shop in Corona, Queens. I have had the same dude cutting my hair since I was 15. STEVE is also my mentor, my therapist, my football teammate, and one of my best friends. I had been promising him that I would bring him to one of these Roots shows and the window opened up this evening thanks to SHAMZ.

STEVE is a music lover. He appreciates the intricacies and the skill level that entertainers have to employ for their craft. STEVE blew my mind when he gave mad props to JAMES POYSER for holding down the keyboards. Many of you will recognize that name from the Hidden Beach recording sessions that produced such talents as JILL SCOTT.

STEVE got the extra treat of seeing ESTELLE sing with the Roots on a few songs including the classic ‘You Got Me’ which the Roots transformed into a Jamaican dancehall riddim to let ESTELLE flex her Caribbean roots. The rapper Skillz also showed up and gave the crowd an old school rhyming battle with Black Thought and Truck North.

After that performance, which happened to be STEVE’s first Roots experience he vowed to return for a subsequent show. I know STEVE will too because he is a man of his word. So what’s your story? Why haven’t you come through? The Roots crew Jam Sessions @ Highline Ballroom are not be missed. Stop sleeping and stay ‘woke.

rapfags

I thought I’d try something new to keep this shit funky over here.

Jailhouse lifestyle and fashion trends have long since been a staple of cRap music. Shit like the du-rag, the wifey B, the kissing men on the mouf, the male hustler who rubs talcum powder on the old men’s nuttsachs, you know, the whole nine…

The popular jailhouse fashion trend right now is currently flashing the men behind you what your underdrawls look like. I can’t imagine this is for showing off to the ladies. Who wants to see skiddoo streaks anyhoo?

Pictured above are three of the most popular young artists in cRap music right now performing in their underdrawls. Which one of these cRap dudes is going to go platinum in his pissypants? You make the call…

*[ll] and no Boutros Boutros BOUTROS for all voters*

Which one of these ghey ass rap fags rocked their underdrawls the best?

All Day I Dream About Sneakers…

adidas

I have been on some adidas shit lately. Nike has so many wonderfully designed technical shoes, but when it comes to simple, classic profile sneakers I have to turn my eye to adidas. Especially for spring and summertime. Especially for tennis shoes. Rod Lavers are forever one of the gems in my holy grail, but y’all already know this.

I’m getting myself prepared to make a few jumps out to Philadelphia to document the city and the culture going on over there. I’m looking for a pair of adidas to rock on my trip(s) to the city of brotherly love. I made a visit to one of NYC’s classic sneaker come up joints – V.I.M. on Nostrand Avenue. I’m right around the corner from Combat Jack’s crib but he ain’t home now so I have no one to chop it up with.

Won’t you walk with me internets?

adidas

Attitude Retro b/k/a PATRICK EWINGs
These were the joints I rocked during the Mets 1986 title run (along with the Syracuse and royal blue Dunks). I really want these too, but I scoff at the $40 pricepoint. I’ll let these marinate in the retail locations until the price falls below $30 cent. I would love for these to wind up as $20 so I could copp two pairs at once.

adidas

Ciero
This is a BMX skateboarding lifestyle shoe meant to compete with the Nike 6.0 series. I’m not really feeling the colorways or the profile. Maybe if they issue this joint with some sexier leathers I might look at it a little harder. Maybe.

adidas

Rod Laver Hi
These joints are like WTF?!? I don’t even know why these joints were produced. Replace the black accents on the sole and the collar with a white or soft grey colorway and then this shoe isn’t so out of order. Rod Laver Hi’s are so hit or miss in my book. When its done right they become fresh tennis ‘boots’, but when its done wrong I have no effin’ words.

adidas

Stan Smith classic
I never cared for the Stan Smith tennis shoe. It was just TOO plain for me. But I will say something for its longevity as one of the most sold sneakers of all time up there with the Chuck Taylor. If I did own a pair of Stan Smiths it would have to be the white with navy accents pictured here. These joints are built for rocking with a blazer and khakis on your Sag Harbor Sunday swagger steez.

adidas

Rod Laver Lo
This is what the fuck I am talking about. I’m gonna let the pricepoint dip another ten bucks and then I am copping two pairs of these joints with the quickness. Rod Lavers are like white tees. You can never have enough of them.

roots picnic

215 Magazine reps their hometown all day, everyday. They are doing it big for the upcoming Roots Picnic @ Penn’s Landing by giving away several get-away packages to folks that put their names on their mailing list. Itsoweezee.

215 Magazine is about the culture that emanates from one of America’s oldest and greatest cities. The art, the music, the nightlife, the cuisine, and most importantly the people that come from there and spread their influence all around the globe. Occasionally the mag even features folks who aren’t from Philly but have madd love for the city of brotherly love. People like me.

love park

My advice to you is to get in the cipher with 215 Mag and possibly win your weekend get-away tix.

I will mos def be in Philly that weekend also so maybe you won’t mind spending some QT with your homie DP.

Peace.
